Fulton-Webb DR-45: Takes A Licking And Keeps On Throwing Poop And Smoking The Cigarette Butts You Give It

Fulton-Webb DR-45

Bill Webb of Fulton-Webb guitars spoke with GW's Patrick Ogle about the challenges of fulfilling international orders for the company's DR-45 (a "fine-tuned JTM-45 circuit). One particular customer in Australia needed to be sent TWO "Scrumptious Monkeys" (the DR-45's nickname) when the first one arrived damaged -- the victim of either robot or monkey assault. GW prefers to blame robots, because the thought of primate-on-primate violence is just too disheartening.

BILL WEBB: This one’s from a guy in Georgia. I’m going to ship it back to him. This is one of our models. It’s like -- We call a DR-45 Scrumptious Monkey. It’s like a -- basically like a kind of fine-tuned JTM45 circuit with two 6L6’s or KT66’s and it’s got 45 watts. This one has a mod on the back. The previous owner wanted a master volume, and the guy that has it now is like, “Yeah, I like it,” so it gives you that [OVERLAPPING].

PATRICK OGLE: What did he send it here for?

BILL WEBB: Somebody had -- the shipping company had dropped it and it didn’t come on, and we found that they had dropped it pretty hard and the chassis was bent. I need to straighten that out. It had a wire that broke loose so. They dropped it pretty hard. I think it looked like to me they dropped it a couple of times. Double box it. Even though it’s in a road case with padding, you don’t want to [INDISCERNIBLE] it off. Good enough. Now, we shipped one a combo. We shipped one of these, a combo, to Australia, and when the guy opened it up, part of the cabinet was busted, you know, but the amp fired up and we’re fine. I think we ended up shipping him another amp. We shipped two of them out there. And the next one he got was it worked fine. We did extra padding and stuff because I don't know what they did with it. It was a robot or something or a giant monkey that does -- loads the planes or whatever. I think it went on a boat. That’s what it is. It was on a boat, you know.
