Furman Classic Series: Power Conditioners Are Doin' It Like Bunnies.
The updates in the new Classic Series power conditioners from Furman are subtle, but important. Luckily, Furman sent a contingent to the 125th AES Convention to explain them all in clear, friendly terms.
Speaking of friendly: the product specialist for Furman refers to the new PL-8C as the "great-grandchild" of the original PL-8, which was introduced only 25 years ago. If that doesn't clue you in on what Furman power conditioners do when they're not conditioning your power, it's high time you had a serious talk with you parents, your clergy, or the man who sells your older brother those "grown-up magazines."
JOHN BENZ: Hi. I’m John Benz with Furman. We’re here at AES 2008, and at this show we’re launching the Classic Series power conditioners. It’s something we’re very excited about.
It was a 1983 that Furman first launched the very first power conditioner light module, the PL-8. Well, this is the great grandchild of that product. This whole family of products, five [INDISCERNIBLE], starting with the PL-8 C. With PL-8 C you’re going to get virtually non-sacrificial surge suppression, linear filtering technology and extreme voltage shutdown. That’s a very comprehensive suite of solutions for your power management.
We also have the kill-out lights of course with a front-panel switch and dimmer. We have a protection OK indicator and an extreme voltage indicator. That extreme voltage indicator is going to tell you when you get an over-voltage or an under-voltage situation. This unit will just shut itself down if the voltage is dangerously high or low, and of course it will also protect you from your transient voltage spikes and cleans up all your line noise so that you get a lower noise floor for your recording or for your audio and video.
Moving up through the line, the rest of the feature are our front panel feature improvements going into the PL-PLUS C. You got an LED volt meter so you can monitor your voltage coming in. And then on the PL-PLUS DMC, it’s actually a switchable voltage and current meter, so you can switch between monitoring your current draw and the incoming voltage.
On this window, you also have a voltage range indicator. You see this little light here that says voltage range. That’s green right now. It’s going to go yellow if you’re in a moderate voltage area or red if you’re in a dangerous voltage area, so you’ll always know, even if you when you’re looking at your current, how your voltage is doing.
Also in the line, we have the Pro models, two models, PL-Pro DMC and PL-Pro C. These are 20 amp capacity models. They both have USB chargers on the front so you can charge your portable media device or your cell phone. On the back of all these products, we now feature wall-wart spacing so the outlets are spaced large enough so you can get those big, bulky transformers in them, and on the Pro models, we include straps so you can screw these straps in and strap those transformers down. A lot of our customers were saying, “You know, when I move the racks around, our transformers keep falling out.” Well now you can strap them in and that’s going to keep that from happening.
So what we did with this new line is we talked to our customers, we found out everything that they need for their power management needs, consolidated our line from the Series II line which was nine [INDISCERNIBLE] down to five and really we’re offering a very comprehensive set at different price points ranging from $209 retail up to $499, everything in between and this is of course the first launch, first time we are showing it at AES, so thank you very much and see you later.
