Krank Krankenstein -- The Amp That Complements The Dean Dimebag Darrell Razorback
Earlier we spoke to Joel Davila of Fury in the Temple about his Dean Dimebag Darrell Razorback Electric Guitar. To complement the guitar, he plays the Krank Krankenstein amp.
"This is my first tube amp. It is without a doubt the loudest amp I've ever played through," he says. "The Krankenstein was designed for Dimebag, so it only makes sense that the Razorback would mesh perfectly with it."
The circuitry is hand-wired and was designed and voiced by Dimebag Darrell. The amp circuitry is based on the Krank Revolution 100-watt. One difference is a overall master volume and a level control on the effects loop.
When we asked Davila if there was any room for improvement with the amp he had a couple suggestions.
"I would add reverb to it and a better line out." he says.
He uses the amp primarily live and employs several other amps through Guitar Rig when he records.
"This amp is awesome. It's like the louder you turn it up the better it sounds." he says.
Davila also adds that the amp has seemed durable in the few months he has had it and that it has a great overall sound and is "wicked f*%@g loud."
The Krankenstein head also has a matched 4x12 cabinet that is optional. It matches the head in looks and was what Dimebag intended the head to be used with. It features a blacked out steel grill and Eminence Texas Heat drivers.
The head will set you back around $1,700 while the cabinet comes in at around $1,000.
