For heavy rock, metal, and any other style of music that needs weighty drums, FXpansion has released BFD Heavy, a BFD2 expansion pack containing a set of presets and a pair of recorded Yamaha birch drum kits (the Recording Custom and the Birch Custom Absolute). Counting both drum kits, BFD Heavy includes three kicks played with felt and wood beaters, nine toms played with sticks and mallets, and a bonus snare.

The Recording Custom is made up of two kicks played with felt and wood beaters, alongside four toms featuring attack and sustain, played with sticks. Similarly, the Birch Custom Absolute is the alternative to maple and features birch shells with excellent mid and low end, and a sharp and vibrant attack. Its five toms are played with sticks and mallets, while the kick is provided in wood and felt beater versions.

The bonus "lite" Yamaha Jimmy Chamberlin signature steel-shell snare complements the kits. It comes in four versions played with sticks and mallets, with the snare strainer on and off. Full-detail versions of this snare are available in the Yamaha Signature Snares Vol. 2 expansion pack.

Further, BFD Heavy features expressive articulations, including rim shots and rim clicks on the Birch Custom Absolute toms, and half-edge samples for expressive programming and electronic drums positional sensing support on the bonus snare.
