GForce ChamberTron: New Expansion Pack Adds More Chamberlin Sounds To M-Tron Pro

September 06, 2011
GForce released ChamberTron, a new expansion pack for M-Tron Pro.

Along with impOSCar2, GForce has released ChamberTron, an expansion pack for the M-Tron Pro virtual instrument, offering a number of sounds based on those of legendary Chamberlin musical instruments.

Artists who have used Chamberlin instruments over the years include Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, David Bowie, Marvin Gaye, Mitchell Froom, Three Dog Night, Todd Rundgren, Gino Vanelli, Edgar Winter, The Moody Blues, Elton John, The Beach Boys, and many others. As GForce says, Chamberlin recordings are widely acknowledged to have a more natural and uncompressed quality about them; Chamberlin instruments also contain more natural vibrato than others.

The ChamberTron for M-Tron Pro expansion pack focuses on the sounds from the Chamberlin keyboards, in particular the rare four-manual Chamberlin M4 and one-off M1 Remote with custom MIDI Interface.

The M4 is one of only four made, priced at over $10,000 when new in the early '70s. Containing 32 tape banks, it has been owned and toured with by the likes of Three Dog Night, Mike Pinder, and Mitchell Froom & The Lettermen. About the M4, GForce writes, "This is a truly beautiful sounding instrument and we hope you'll be as blown away with the M4 sounds that help make up this collection as we are."

Similarly, the M1 Remote is one of only six made. The unit that GForce used has the unique honor of being controlled by a custom built MIDI interface and was restored by Richard Chamberlin (Harry's son) for actor Vincent Gallo before finding its way into GForce's hands. While it contains the standard eight sounds, it's the quality of these sounds that speaks volumes.

In addition to sounds from the M4 and M1 Remote, the new expansion pack includes some sounds from a Chamberlin 600, as well as a "Variety" effects tape made for a Rhythmate 25 tape-based drum machine. According to Richard Chamberlin, the only other Rhythmate 25 he's aware of is owned by Chamberlin player Patrick Warren. GForce thinks that its "Variety" effects tape for this drum machine may be the only one in existence. Huzzah.

ChamberTron features:

  • Only available via download
  • Over 40 new tape banks
  • 35 Notes per tape bank
  • Optional ChamberTron Interface design
  • Hundreds of patches, many from luminaries including Dean & Jarrod (I Monster), David Hentschel (Genesis and Elton John), and Jem Godfrey (Frost)

GForce ChamberTron for M-Tron Pro is now available for £69.99 GBP (approximately $112) from gforcesoftware.com.
