Joey Tafolla For Carvin DC127C, Feb 1992
It's 1992 again, that transitional period in mainstream rock history when the Warrants and Poisons of the industry were being replaced by the Alices in Chains and the Pearl Jams. Pictured is one Joey Tafolla, one-time shredmaster-general with the unfortunately-named Colorado metal concern Jag Panzer.
Rob Warmowski: Exactly how Joey, 1992 Guitar Player magazine endorser for Carvin's DC127C guitar fits into the hairspray vs. flannel historical backdrop, I can't really say. In fact, neither can Joey's own website. However, further research into the elusive Mr. Tafolla uncovered one on the most unintentionally hilarious reviews of a CD I've ever read, published at a website named The Shred Zone. Just priceless.
[Joey Tafolla's 2002] Song "Touch Tones"...progress[es] into a mystical tonal journey. The backing rhythms have an Indian influence on them. Sounds like simulated Sitar to me. This song made me feel like I was on a magic carpet, cruising over the hot desert in search of an oasis with palm trees and belly dancers.
Yeah, India, Arabia: it's all the same thing, right? Way to be aware of the planet upon which you live, Rumsfeld.
