Gibson Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker Makes Joan Jett's Signature Melodies Imitable By The Masses
Gibson and rocker Joan Jett have teamed up, and through their cooperation, have produced the Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker. It was developed to match specs with Joan Jett's first Melody Maker, which Jett commented on:
“I got my Melody Maker in 1977. It was light, and it sounded great. It was the guitar I had in the Runaways and then played on all my hits like ‘I Love Rock N’ Roll’ and ‘Bad Reputation’ and ‘Do You Wanna Touch Me.’ It’s my baby.”
Other features include a slim-tapered neck profile, an ebony fingerboard and a silk-screened gold logo on the headstock. It's also lightweight with a worn white finish.
In terms of hardware, the guitar has mini-Grovers with authentic "witch hat" knobs like Joan's own Melody Maker. With only one pickup, a slightly overwound Burstbucker 3 zebra humbucker with asymmetrical coils and unpolished Alnico II magnets, no pickup selector is necessary. Instead, Gibson added a kill switch.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is still rocking hard today as she was when she first picked up the Melody Maker.
