Gibson Les Paul Studio

September 08, 2006
Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar
The Gibson Les Paul Studio is a cosmetically simplified version of Gibson's classic standard Les Paul model. The original LP models were designed in collaboration with recording artist Les Paul, mostly in competition with Fender's Telecaster. Rather than produce inexpensive plank-like bodies with bolt-on necks, Gibson opted for an elegantly carved, bound body with a set neck. The guitar also featured the newly-invented "humbucking" pickups, which cut out the 60-cycle hum of single-coil pickups and gave the Les Paul a much darker tone than Fender's Stratocasters and Telecasters. The Les Paul Studio omits the body binding, and has a sleek, stripped-down appearance, while retaining the essential Les Paul features.

Features:
  • 22 frets
  • Tune-o-matic bridge
  • Two covered humbucking pickups
  • Two volume and two tone controls
  • Three-way pickup selector switch
  • Mahogany neck
  • Ebony or rosewood fretboard
  • Carved maple top
  • Mahogany back

I really got upset when this guy said: "it is not a bolt-on neck or any silly stuff like that".
I really like Les Pauls, but personally I use Fender because they are affordable and they have really GOOD quality. As you know (if you really guys know) Fender guitars (most of them) have bolt-on necks. This guy was unprofessional and stupid for saying such bull****
Fender guitars are (for me) the best guitars I've ever played and I won't let any "professional" reviewer to talk s**t about Fender.
Thank You

Just a little comment

I have been actually thinking of getting Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar (different color though, but it does not matter). I have watched this video, and I have read these 4 comments, and unfortunately I have to agree with the unfavorable ones - the majority. Here is what I think: this Gibson, as all of them, IS BEAUTIFUL. No doubt about it. Too much CLASSIC - we know it is classic. Basically, the guy in this video told things that are easily accessible online, on tons of webpages. I have expected something more than that. I have expected that he would talk about all the sounds it generates, how does it differ from Les Paul Classic, is it worth paying the price - as far I as know around $1500 - and general maintenance. And the very last part with the case looks as if it was recorded and pasted after the whole thing.

DREW KRAG: Thanks for tuning in. We're here today with a Les Paul Studio. It's a Wine Red, very beautiful guitar. If you've ever had the fortunate circumstance of checking one of these out, it's a classic, modern classic. It's a 24.75" scale neck. It's a mahogany body. You see a maple top, very beautiful.

You got mahogany neck that is also a set-in neck. If you take a look at the back right there, you can see it's not a bolt-on or any silly stuff like that. Twenty-two frets on this guitar. You got a rosewood fingerboard, pretty standard. This has got the classic Gibson neck. It's pretty thick. It feels really good to play. You get a lot of sustain with this neck especially with the set-in. It gives it a lot of extra sustain that a lot of other guitars do not have.

As you can see, it's got trapezoidal inlays. They're pearl and they're very beautiful, classic Gibson style. If we take a look up here at the headstock of the guitar, you see the classic Gibson tuners. These things have been around for quite some time. That's classic Gibson style. It has the Les Paul model and Gibson on the top there, and you know and then on the back you got your serial number and the made in USA classic gibson.

You scroll down to the bridge area, it's got a Tune-O-Matic bridge, which is actually really good for also aiding to the sustain of this instrument. You can adjust your intonation right here, which is great if you want to try different gauges of strings. This guitar sounds great with any gauge strings. I've played these with light strings, heavy strings, and overall it's just been great.

Let me play this guitar a little bit for you. We're going to be toggling between these two pickups. You got the 490R neck pickup and the 498T bridge pickup. So, take a listen and here we go starting with the rhythm pickups.

So there you have it. You can hear the classic Gibson tone. Now let's see if we can get a little distortion on the guitar, which is also a very classic thing for the Gibson. You got to have a little distortion.

As you can hear, it wails. This guitar absolutely wails.

There you have it, the Gibson Les Paul Studio.
