Gibson V-Factor X: If You Think About It, It's Really More Like An Upside-Down Y

September 16, 2008
Gibson V-Factor X

To match my playing style, Gibson hooked me up with a custom V-Factor X guitar. It's the same as a regular V-Factor X, but I dropped it and replaced the vintage style tuners that broke off with cheaper tuners and bypassed a wiring problem with a matchbook.

Cosmetic alterations aside, it sounds the same. Hear it clean, here.

Amp?

By: Anonymous Coward (not verified)

I really like the sound of the bottom end ... but I can't help but wonder if its partially the amp you're using. What are you plugging into?

J. IRVING-GILES: Hi. I'm J. Irving-Giles here with Gearwire.Com and I have the Gibson V-Factor X with me. Gibson V-Factor X comes with two pickups. It's got the both ceramic humbuckers, one is the 500T and one is the 496R, and it's got Grover kidney tuners although as you see on my particular version, two of them have come off in a tragic accident. Also on this one, the electronics are kind of funny so we've got a temporary fix here by jamming a matchbook under the loose volume pot, and that for the most part keeps things in shape. It's got a three-way toggle switch here. It's mahogany body, mahogany neck, and a rosewood fingerboard, and let's start off. Let's give the bridge pickup a shot.

All right, and switch that out. We'll try the middle position now. We'll get a blend of both.

And finally, the neck pickup.

All right. That's the Gibson Flying V. You've watching Gearwire.Com.
