Specifically, the original 1962 Wilshire originally cost about $210, whereas those same guitars now sell for bewteen $5,000 and $12,000 on the vintage market.

Coincidentally, one look at these new limited edition banjos' price tags will send you into your own personal great depression.

The latest addition to Gibson USA's 2009 Limited Run Series is the Tribal V, an instrument that combines a shape popularized by prog warriors of the late 60s and early 70s and modern tribal pattern art to honor modern tribe members like Bill Goldberg, Mike Tyson and Angelina Jolie.

The newest Limited Run guitar from Gibson gives a little nod to guitarists in the southern hemisphere, currently about to enter their "fall" season. The Gibson SG Carved-Top Autumn Burst will be limited to 350 guitars, which, coincidentally, is the exact number of guitarists actually living in the southern hemisphere.  

Whether you see the guitar as semi-hollow or semi-solid, the reissue of the 1959 ES-335 Dot is going to give 500 lucky Gibson fans a guitar that bears an uncanny likeness to the classic that semi-started it all. And by lucky, I mean lucky that they can afford one.  

Presented as a small, nearly inconsequential feature on the Gibson Lifestyle newsletter is an article featuring video of the Gibson Robot tuning system. Not so newsworthy. . . until you realize that the system is installed on an EJ160E John Lennon ROund Shoulder acoustic.  

After being discontinued in 1982, the Gibson Grabber II Bass is being reintroduced in a very limited run series of 350 basses. It'll be interesting to see if the economic principal of scarcity can make this bass any less ugly.
