Gig-Fx KILO-WAH: WAHt You Cryin' About?
A fierce proponent of the questionable benefits of lacrymology, the gig-fx KILO-WAH can cry out with funky tears. Owen O'Malley walks you through the four wah types selectable on this pedal and gives his take on the pedal's design. He also gives you enough filtered fodder to give you an idea of what this wah sounds like.
Keep your tissues handy for this one!

OWEN O'MALLEY: Welcome back to Gearwire.Com. I'm Owen O'Malley, and this is the gig-fx Kilo-Wah, one of the many wahs from the gig-fx company, a pretty young effects company.
The Kilo-Wah is a mono effect. It has a couple of different effect modes. Right now we're on Mega-Wah. Let's go back to Cry, which is the first mode, and it's the sort of the most traditional wah sound on this pedal.

What Mega does, basically when we switch on the Mega mode, it's just a sort of a more intense wah effect that boosts the bass frequencies quite a bit.

It's just a more pronounced sweep effect so essentially a different wah pedal. If we go to trigger mode, now we've got an envelope filter.

Totally bypasses the rocker switch as does the last mode, which is an auto-wah mode. Auto-wah engages the rate switch right here.

The speed of your wah effect is dictated by this control.

So now, while I got you here, might as well put the wah through some distortion, really let it rip and hear what it sounds like.

So there you go, a pretty sweet, thick-sounding wah that was on the Mega Wah mode. The unique thing about this pedal is that there's no physical bypass switch. It's actually there's an optical resistor underneath the toe end of the rocker pedal. When the rocker's all the way back, the effect is disengaged, and when you start rocking it forward...,

...there's one sort of like there's a position where it's engaged. Now, you might be sort of concerned about automatically or accidentally turning it off in the midst of a flailing wah solo but there's actually, once you get used to the sort of range of the pedal, there's kind of enough give in the bass range like before you actually turn the pedal off that it's actually kind of rare that you'll turn it off in the midst of your wah ecstasy. Your wahcstasy? Anyway, that is the Kilo-Wah from gig-fix. I am Owen O'Malley from Gearwire. Thanks for watching.
