Glitch Freeware Plug-in By Dblue Tears Your .wavs To Shreds...For Free!

August 31, 2007
The Livewire Shows How to Use Glitch in the Studio

Glitch, a freeware plug-in offered by dblue, was first reviewed by Gearwire in Crosstalk 23. Since then, we have stepped away from the plug-in and pretty much forgotten about it's awe-inspiring majesty.

Last week, we had a chance to sit down with The Livewire from Hi-Fi Hearts and talk a little bit about Glitch. He runs through all of the parameters and shows how to use the sequencer to get the most out of this powerful plug-in.

Maybe you could be more specific. Saying something is lame just makes you sound like a 16 year old living in your mom's basement. I think glitch is pretty damn cool. Yeah, maybe the hand held approach wasn't the best, but it looks like they are shooting on the road in this one. This does not look like the Gearwire studio at all. A screen cast would be great. Maybe Gearwire could do issue specific screen caps with glitch? That would be awesome.

Thanks, man. Yeah, we were shooting on location, and he showed me this plug-in at last minute. I couldn't believe it was free. What stinks is that it's PC only, so I'm going to have to fire up the PC at Gearwire and start doing some good screen casts with it.

Im actually 15 thank you

Im actually 15 thank you very much...k, ill be more specific, but it was really just a spontaneous post. I wasnt saying how lame the filming or production was, just how lame and depressing the process of making glitch/electronic music was. Its just depressing that staring at a computer screen and messing around with drum loops is considered music.

Don't sweat it. We've got a ton of anonymous users online. I agree, glitch and IDM CAN be boring, just like progressive rock or uninspired punk rock can be really boring. I appreciate your honesty in looking at the video, though. If you are more into instrumentation, keep in mind that this plug-in can be used to effect already recorded drums or guitar. Just a thought. Pretty much every musician uses computers now, so it's inevitable that your music ends up in the digital world eventually. Thanks for watching the video and being honest, though.

progressive rock

Leave the progrock alone you silly fuck. Being deaf does not justify comments like this. It's probably not your era anyway so stop making comments that irritate others. Anyway the plug-in is really great!!!

dude

I love good progressive rock. I grew up on Jethro Tull, Yes, King Crimson, etc. I just think that any genre can get boring if uninspired. Punk and Prog rock are two I often pick because they are at the roots of what I first got into musically, so I notice more easily when a record is god-awful. For example, a lot of stuff that people did solo going into the late-seventies became overblown and pompous. I love glitch and IDM too, which is why I make the comparison. Sorry if it came off the wrong way.

woah there boy

okay fella, you can tell by the way that this guy replies that hes a sound fella. calling him a silly fuck because he said that x or y genre has its god awful artists is donright immature. maybe lay back off the old offensice language until youre certain that the person youre reffering to is indeed a silly fuck yahhh?

THE LIVEWIRE: Not the best of loops but it's a decent loop so we're going to make it sound a little bit better. So, I'll look up through my massive amounts of effects and find the Dblue Glitch. It loads up this gigantic screen which has a lot of stuff but I'm only going to show you it because you got to hear it.

[THE LIVEWIRE PLAYING A LOOP THROUGH GLITCH]

So, what it does is it sets a random effect that chops up the loop accordingly. I'm going to set the tape stop.

[THE LIVEWIRE PLAYING A LOOP THROUGH GLITCH]

You have your modulator.

[THE LIVEWIRE PLAYING A LOOP THROUGH GLITCH]

Retrigger.

[THE LIVEWIRE PLAYING A LOOP THROUGH GLITCH]

Shuffler.

[THE LIVEWIRE PLAYING A LOOP THROUGH GLITCH]

Reverse.

[THE LIVEWIRE PLAYING A LOOP THROUGH GLITCH]

Crusher.

[THE LIVEWIRE PLAYING A LOOP THROUGH GLITCH]

BILL HOLLAND: Hold the mic towards the speakers a little bit when you're playing.

THE LIVEWIRE: All right. So we have the crusher.

[THE LIVEWIRE PLAYING A LOOP THROUGH GLITCH]

The gate effect.

[THE LIVEWIRE PLAYING A LOOP THROUGH GLITCH]

The delay...,

[THE LIVEWIRE PLAYING A LOOP THROUGH GLITCH]

...and the stretcher.

[THE LIVEWIRE PLAYING A LOOP THROUGH GLITCH]

So, I kind of like a combination between the stretcher and the reverser, so what I'm going to do is I'm going to set the bar length to be only a four-bar because the loop we have is only approximately a four-bar long, so we set that there, and right now it's all set for random so it's selecting each pattern at random, but I want to set it to a couple of things that I like.
