Gretsch's 125th Anniversary: This Ain't Your Great-Great-Grandaddy's Guitar Company...OK Maybe it is.
Did you know that Gretsch's factory moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, over 90 years before the Yeah Yeah Yeah's Karen O was even BORN? Gretsch is THAT hip.
And to celebrate their enduring hipness, Gretsch is celebrating their 125th Anniversary (the plutonium anniversary) by introducing a new line of tight-cut stonewashed jeans and paisley-embroidered kerchiefs! Wait! I mean they're introducing a bunch of limited edition guitars!
Included in the new 2008 collection is the Custom Shop Chet Atkins G6120 125th Anniversary Limited Edition (pictured), a 25-unit run that lists for over 12,000 USD, making it the perfect president's day gift (read: you will dropping many presidents in exchange for this guitar. The guitar ships with a leather strap and beltbuckle hand-tooled by renowned cordovan Tom Nix. You know, that DOES kinda sound like hipster gear. Hmm . . .
Additional models in the 2008 line include the G6118T-LTV 125th Anniversary (Hollowbody with a Jaguar Tan top and Metallic Gold back and sides), the G6136DL David Lee Limited Edition artist model (Based on the guitarist's modded White Falcon and limited to a production of 30), and the G5235 G. Love Corvette artist model (G. Love might qualify as "retro-chic" at this point).
Finally, Gretch is Introducing a new, Class A, ultra compact guitar amp, the Gretsch Electromatic® G5222, a 5 watt, all tube low-fi piece that's finished in a homely-looking tweed, just like Connor Oberst! Damn, Gretsch is actually so hip, I'm forming a disturbing love/hate relationship with them.
