Hagstrom Guitars At Winter NAMM 2007

January 24, 2007
A look at the Ultralux XL, Ultralux Select Ultrasuites, and other Hagstrom Guitars

The legendary Hagstrom Guitars were in full force at NAMM, and presenter Dean Downey shows us a few of their slick-looking new guitars. Check out the full-contact tremolo system and custom-designed pick-ups on the Ultralux XL5.

Downey also displays a detached Hagstrom neck, showing the H-expander truss rod system, an I-beam that runs the length of the neck and provides great support and playability without adding unnecessary bulk.

Having ceased production in 1983, Hagstrom came back just last year and is committed to manufacturing the same fine guitars that made the name famous.

Check out the the official Hagstrom Guitars website.

ROB WARMOWSKI: Hey everybody, welcome to NAMM 2007, Winter NAMM 2007 in lovely Los Angeles, California. I'm Rob Warmowski for Gearwire.Com and we're here with Dean Downey from the legendary Hagstrom Guitar Company. Dean, how are you doing today?

DEAN DOWNEY: Doing excellent. Doing excellent.

ROB WARMOWSKI: Fabulous, fabulous. Let's talk about the Hagstroms that are out for NAMM this year.

DEAN DOWNEY: We got some very exciting new products out for NAMM this year. One of the premier products that we're featuring is called the Ultralux XL. This is an XL5. As you can see, we've got a flame top, we got our Hagstrom full-contract tremolo system, and we've got our custom-designed pickups. Now, these are actually specifically made for Hagstrom Guitars. We design these ourselves, we build these ourselves, Incredible, incredible pickups, a little extra gain on them and some very, very nice tone. Hagstrom was always known for its tone; we're trying to keep that sprit alive.

This is probably the best feature of every Hagstrom guitar though. This is the Hagstrom neck. We use a patented H-Expander Truss Rod System which is basically an I-beam that runs down the center of the guitar neck, so it runs all the way from here to here like a standard truss rod except it gives us the ability to make our necks a little extra thinner. That gives us incredible playability on all of our models. It doesn't matter which instrument you're playing, they all of incredible sound and an incredible feel.

Another one of our new products we have featured here sis the Ultralux Select Ultra Swede, and these instruments here, incredible, incredible again figured tops, maple binding, and by the way these are select maple solid tops. It is an unbelieveable instrument. We pick the best woods we can find anywhere and feature them on our instruments: select mahogany, select maple, again with the same Hagstrom neck and one fantastic instrument. This is available also in a non-select version where we use standard, not select, woods. The price points are great, the product is great. Please check us out.
