August 29, 2011
Hal Leonard released Instrumental & Vocal Recording, the updated second-edition book by Bill Gibson.

Now available from Hal Leonard Books, Instrumental & Vocal Recording is Bill Gibson's updated second-edition of Book 2 in the 6-book Hal Leonard Recording Method series. The informative 344-page guide with DVD ROM and online media offers professional insight into the process of recording instruments and vocals.

Following Book 1 in the series, Microphones & Mixers, Instrumental & Vocal Recording shows readers how to make their own audio productions. In his straight-forward style, author Bill Gibson explains the general concepts of acoustics before diving into the nitty gritty of specific instruments and vocals. Chapters are devoted to Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Drums and Percussion, Electric and Upright Bass, Pianos, Real and Synthesized Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds, and there is an extensive chapter on Vocals. In addition, each chapter is filled with photos, diagrams, charts, and audio examples to reinforce the concepts presented in the text. For maximum comprehension, Gibson even includes a test at the conclusion of each chapter.

This second edition of Instrumental & Vocal Recording addresses new equipment and software concerns that affect the way recordings are made. Updated text, illustrations, photos, and video examples add to the existing content of the previous edition, while new techniques and considerations provide additional recording scenarios and pertinent information for the modern studio owner, musician, producer, hobby recordist, and so forth.

With this book on hand, you will learn all you need to know about capturing the best vocal and instrument tracks possible, no matter what kind of studio you are working in or what kind of equipment is used.

Instrumental & Vocal Recording is available as a soft-cover book with DVD from Hal Leonard for $39.99. For more information on the book or the other tiles in the Hal Leonard Recording Method series, please visit the company's Web site, halleonardbooks.com.

I just got a new microphone and audio system and I'm still trying to figure out the recording process. I found a lot of tutorials online, but I think this book is much better. I haven't seen it in stores, but I'm sure Ebay has it.
