Handwired-Effects VTR-1 Vintage Tremolo Pedal Produces Pulsing Throbs And Vibrato

March 09, 2010
Handwired-Effects VTR-1 Vintage Tremelo is a sine wave-based pedal with knobs for controlling depth and speed.

Re-create the naturally smooth swing of the tremolo-equipped tube amps from the 1950s and 1960s with the Handwired-Effects VTR-1 Vintage Tremolo. The sine wave-based pedal with all-analog circuity delivers everything from slow, pulsating throbs to hypnotic vibrato -- without producing any distortion, according to the manufacturer.

Its simple face sports a Depth knob for setting the intensity of the effect, along with two Speed knobs that work independently from one another and provide contrast between two different speed settings. The additional footswitch lets you switch back and forth between the settings with ease -- a useful function to have on hand when you need two different tremolo speeds, or when you simply have to go hands-free. Handwired-Effects notes that the VTR-1 is like two tremolo pedals in one, great for studio work and live performances.

The VTR-1 features a handwired analog signal path and does well with both clean and dirty channels. Powered by a 9V battery or optional power supply, it also includes mechanical true bypass switching for direct and unchanged signal in bypass mode. The pedal is housed in a heavy-duty, shielded casing.

Handwired-Effects is now taking pre-orders for the VTR-1 Vintage Tremolo for 260 EUR (or about $354). For more details, visit handwired-effects.org.
