Harmony H54 Rocket: Rocket With Two Mustaches, By René Magritte

December 17, 2008
Harmony H54 Rocket Demo

Like "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, the Harmony H54 Rocket has gone through some changes since its inception, but has still retained its trademark mustache (yes, The Hulkster was born with a sweet handlebar). Unlike The Hulk, the H54 Rocket has two mustaches, each with its own unique tone.

Chris Laguna from Harmony plays the H54 through our Studio Vox AC15 and talks about the subtle upgrade its been given since being resurrected this year, for example, it has a beefy set-neck joint to cut down on movement -- just like Hulk Hogan!

CHRIS LAGUNA: My name is Chris Laguna, and I am the VP of sales and marketing for Harmony.

Here I'm holding the H54 Rocket. This is a two-pickup version of the Rocket Guitar. This also comes in a double cutaway, single cutaway. It also comes in a sunburst color and a redburst.

Once again we set the neck, giving you a better sustain. We put the better tuners on there. So from the guitar, it looks identical to the original one. Even with the color of the knobs and the vintage -- the tuning keys, we actually had them match the color to the originals because over the past 40 years, the color of the knobs have faded to a yellowish antique color. So, we actually matched the color of the knobs to the original ones that we bought.

Once again, we have the two pickup, moustache pickups with the adjustable pole pieces. They're actually a floating pickup as opposed to the originals which was a fixed pickup so you couldn't adjust the height of the pickup compared to the strings. Now you can actually do that and get a lot better tone, and you can adjust your volumes much better. So, you get a lot of tone out of the toggle switch, and you could go from your bridge pickup to your neck pickup and get a lot of tones out of it.

So, you see it has the same tone as the original but a lot better playability with it.

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
