Harmony Guitars: The President Cuts The Ribbon On Our Look At The New Reissues
We were visited by the President of Harmony Guitars, Charlie Subecz, and his cabinet of reissued Harmony Guitars. After 45 years of inactivity, the original guitars have all been tracked down to be reverse engineered so molds could be made on every part of every guitar to ensure that the original look and sound is restored, save for a few improvements.
Stay tuned to Gearwire, because we'll be seeing some of those improvements first-hand.
CHARLIE SUBECZ: Hi. My name is Charlie Subecz. I'm the owner of the Harmony Guitar Company.
Harmony was founded in 1892 and for many, many years was a leader of quality musical instruments in America.
[CHRIS LAGUNA PLAYING ON A HARMONY H62 ARTIST ELECTRIC GUITAR]
CHARLIE SUBECZ: Recently, we have reintroduced some of the most popular guitars from the '50s and '60s. It's been a 45-year hiatus since we first introduced the Rocket, the Meteor, Stratotone, etc. We have brought back 14 of these guitars and meticulously recreated every single detail. In an effort to do this, we had to develop molds for every single part of all of these guitars, not only the bodies but the tailpieces, the knobs, the pickups, which I may add the pickups not only look like the originals, they sound like the original guitars. We actually took the guitars apart and had them reverse engineered so that the pickups sounded exactly like the originals. The magnets, the frequencies, every single thing on the guitar is exactly like the original with some improvements which may not be visible to the naked eye, but Chris is going to show you a few of those improvements that had actually made the guitars sound a lot better than the originals.

H640
Hi
I have a beautiful Harmony H640 which I have owned for around 20 years. It was sold to me as a sixties guitar but I can see no date markings or even Model number on the guitar. I have identified it as being an H640 by Photographs I have seen. It seems to be the only Semi-Hollow body without the Bigsby Tail Piece. It has two Humbucker pickups which are colored black, although I,m not sure if they are the originals or not. The economy forces me to sell this instrument but I don,t want to let it go cheap but then again I don,t want to overprice it. Can you please tell me when these were manufactured and how I can go about finding it,s exact year and also what it,s worth. It is in pristine condition. It has Grover Tuners and Gold hardware.
Many Thanks.
Rob
