Hercules Mobile DJ MP3: Set Loops Without Getting Off The Couch
In this continuation of his walkthrough of the Hercules Mobile DJ MP3, Bill Holland shows us how to use the included software interface to put together a playlist. The wireless controller will help you assemble a playlist, but as for discerning the difference between dubstep and minimal, you're on your own.
Once you've got your setlist compiled, you're gonna want to get all fancy. Bill shows us how to scratch and set loop points with the accuracy of Annie Oakley's drunken corpse.
BILL HOLLAND: Now you'll notice I've loaded my library down here. If I want to add more music, I can hit add, and it'll actually bring up a directory, and I can add files, folder, import iTunes library, or hit cancel. Extremely useful, you can also remove or clear tracks if you don't want them in there, so if Tony Bennett shows up in there and you don't to be spinning Tony Bennett that night you can pull that out. If there's some dubstep in there and you're going to be minimal, you can remove that. You can also organize everything very neatly over in the browser, and one way to scroll through the tracks over here, without even touching your computer, there's little -- and I'll show them to you -- little scroll wheels right here, one for each side, and they correspond -- This one is the beat so I can go down and pick this track by curses. Instead of the double Kanji Kinetic remix I had in there, I'm going to load that up and you'll see it load up there, it takes a second because it's using RAM to load it.
One other thing to note, I can zoom in and out of my waveform if I want to scratch more precisely.

Or if I want to be less precise, I can zoom out.

Also, you can set in and out points with loops on the fly, so let's say I want to...

...hit that. Again, no in and out point over here...

...except you'll notice it doesn't hit the in and out point the way it's supposed to, so what you have to do is actually set an in point first and then set the out point and now I have my loop, and I can go over here and do the same thing.

In this case, I don't like where that track is starting so I may try something else. Set my loop end point, go back, I want to start right there so I'm going to hit in. I'm also going to set my cue point for there.

Oh. Let's see where I'm getting tripped up on, number one time for the one-bar loop. Let's turn that off, let's cue back to the beginning and pause it, bring it back here, and then I'm going to hit my end point on my loop there.

And I'll hit sync and then my loops will sync together.
