Holophone PortaMic 5.1: Record Your Kid's Cello Recital In Mind-Blowing Surround Sound

May 09, 2008
Holophone PortaMic 5.1

Holophone's been designing and producing 5.1 surround sound microphones for almost fifteen years, and they've finally introduced a camera-mounted solution that's priced for the consumer-market.

Yes, for about the same price as an HDDV camcorder, you can finally record company picnics, friends' weddings, and your backyard wrestling league matches in lush 5.1 surround sound, and you don't even need any special adapters, as the PortaMic hooks directly into any camera's stereo mini-jack.

This "Instant Surround" is made possible by way on an onboard Dolby ProLogic II converter, meaning the embedded 5.1 audio information is automatically decoded when played through any DPLII compatible consumer system. If you want to get all fancy in post, you can also decode the 5.1 information using Holophone D-Code, or any DPLII conversion software.

The PortaMic 5.1 is powered by 9V battery, and features an integrated 12db pad for preserving your child's sixth birthday party in all its joyful, screaming glory.
