Now shipping, the Holophone PortaMic Pro is a camera-mountable surround microphone designed for audio and video applications. The mic offers the same design as the PortaMic 5.1, with an expanded feature set and a more compact size.

Like the PortaMic 5.1, the PortaMic Pro ($999 MSRP) offers 5.1 audio recording, point-and-shoot usability, and a 2.5-inch x 1.5-inch mic hear powered through six separate mic elements arranged to correspond with the typical 5.1 speaker setup. With the PortaMic Pro, you can capture, from a single point source, a discrete surround recording.

Added features include an audio zoom button that provides additional control, increases the forward bias of the mic's pickup pattern, and decreases the rear channels; and a locking 6-pin balanced encoded stereo output, which provides a secure connection to professional-grade video cameras and stereo input devices.

The Pro is also equipped with the Dolby Laboratories Dolby Pro Logic II encoder, the driving force that lets the mic's six audio channels be encoded down to two channels, so that it can be recorded to today's broadcast camera or stereo recording devices. Recordings made by the PortaMic Pro are output through line level directly to any stereo device you choose. The microphone has unity gain control and a 12 dB pad, and it's powered by either a 9V battery or 12V DC from external power sources.
