December 15, 2008
Indamixx Offers Full Laptop Features In An Affordable Unit

In the last two indamixx videos, Gearwire's Bill Holland navigated getting a sequence set up in Energy XT and building some basic patterns. In this video, he delves into the other software and it's functionality.

Indamixx also includes a Modular Synth, Audacity for editing audio, seq24 (a loop-based sequencer like ACID), Hydrogen (a drum machine) and Mixx ( a DJ application).

BILL HOLLAND: Welcome back to Gearwire.Com. My name is Bill Holland, and this is my third demo of Indamixx. In this video, I just want to go through some of the applications I didn’t get a chance to show you at the beginning. A lot of these like Audacity are normally freeware but some of these are very, very cool. We have the AlsaModularSynth. This can be connected to the EnergyXT sequencer and uses a very powerful modular synth emulator, a virtual modular unit. If I go to file, I can load up a patch. We have effects over here like classical reverb or we can load up a step sequencer for one.

You’ll see here it’s set up to receive the MIDI trigger from your sequencer the going to the voltage control oscillators, your voltage control frequency envelopes, amplitude, and then out to a reverb and then your master audio out. Let’s get out of here real quick.

We also have Hydrogen which is a pretty easy-to-use drum machine and loop-making tool. You see I already have a sample setup here. Nice loop.

And the pattern you can actually switch up on the fly.

[BILL HOLLAND PLAYING BACK LOOP THROUGH HYDROGEN]

Now, let’s say I want to switch the kit. I don’t like the kit that I’m using. Just hit up a pattern. I go to view, I go to my drum kit manager, and I can select a hard electro kit...

[BILL HOLLAND PLAYING BACK LOOP THROUGH HYDROGEN]

...and load drum kit.

[BILL HOLLAND PLAYING BACK LOOP THROUGH HYDROGEN]

There’s also the classic scrolling 909...,

...808...,

...and 707.

[BILL HOLLAND PLAYING BACK LOOP THROUGH HYDROGEN]

A 606 as well...,

[BILL HOLLAND PLAYING BACK LOOP THROUGH HYDROGEN]

...and a TD-7.

[BILL HOLLAND PLAYING BACK LOOP THROUGH HYDROGEN]

Exiting there, you also see we have a virtual MIDI keyboard, Sequencer 24 (kind of an audio sequencer program), GTK2, Audacity (which is an audio sequencing program), EnergyXT which really is the powerhouse and the center of the whole Indamixx setup which I looked at in videos one and two, and also we have Mixxx (which is like a DJ application). We’lllopen that real quick.

Okay. Here’s Mixxx and all I do is grab a track. They have some preloaded tracks here. Now, you got my left turntable on the top and my right on the bottom, and right away I’m making music. Cue it up and play.

[BILL HOLLAND PLAYING TRACKS USING MIXXX]

You have EQs on the right and left side...,

[BILL HOLLAND PLAYING TRACKS USING MIXXX]

...and you can even sync these up by using the sync button.

[BILL HOLLAND PLAYING TRACKS USING MIXXX]

Wait for it.

[BILL HOLLAND PLAYING TRACKS USING MIXXX]

And if they’re not quite in sync, you can then nudge them a little bit and go the right way.

[BILL HOLLAND PLAYING TRACKS USING MIXXX]

You see, I can scratch back and forth and kind of wind up the tracks.

Well, thanks for watching Gearwire.Com. This is the Indamixx and my name is Bill Holland.
