eMedia Music, a distributor of iZotope Inc. products, has announced the availability of iZotope Music & Speech Cleaner (Mac / Win; $39.95 MSRP), a scrubbing toolkit for editing and cleaning up audio files. Use Music & Speech Cleaner to reduce background noise and wind; remove hum, buzz, pops and clicks; and much more. According to eMedia, the editing software is especially useful for home video soundtracks and similar home-studio projects.

Music & Speech Cleaner works with same types of files you use with video editing software: WAV, AIFF, MP3, MP4, M4A, AAC, WMA, MOV, and AVI. Extract audio from your video files, clean them up, and then put the well-kempt, fresh versions back in. The software is also great for transferring audio from vinyl and cassette tape to other mediums, as well as creating clean samples and loops. All recorded files can be separated into multiple tracks and then saved as WAV or AIFF files for further use.

The software includes handy modules for quick fixes. The Reduce Noise module lets you lower or eliminate noise, such as hiss and ambient noise. The Enhance Music module improves the sound by cleaning up muddy details and adding clarity. Lastly, the Enhance Voice module improves the sound of most voice recordings. eMedia doesn't say in detail how these modules work, but we can assume that they act like the Auto functions in Adobe Photoshop, and adjust audio details according to set standards.
