JazzMutant Dexter Touch Controller Released

September 25, 2007
JazzMutant Dexter

If you're a little baffled by the logic of using a keyboard to control sounds and elements on the screen of your computer DAW, the team at JazzMutant must have felt the same way when creating the innovative Dexter. The JazzMutant Dexter is a touch screen style controller that allows users to control what's happening on screen by simply touching the Dexter's screen.

The Dexter is fueled by JazzMutant's patented Multitouch Display Technology. Insightfully noting that the majority of producers have ten fingers, JazzMutant sets itself apart with this technology allowing all ten fingers to act autonomously and simultaneously.

The Dexter also mirrors what your monitor is displaying for visual feedback. Track and effects names are displayed in full, level meters, timecode, precise surround position, and exact EQ curves update in real-time. Dexter functionally eliminates the need for your computer monitor when in use.

Another innovative feature on JazzMutant's Dexter is zoomable controllers so users can zoom in for tighter precision or zoom out for a wider view - all in real time. This means that there's no need for a Homer Simpson style dialing wand.

The JazzMutant Dexter also boasts the following features:

  • Crystal Clear Mixing Interface
  • Full Featured Channel Edit
  • Bank Navigation
  • Track Filtering
  • Dynamic Grouping
  • EQ and FX Control
  • Unique, Intuitive Surround Control

Basically, this controller turns your software into hardware. Chances are, it also turns water into wine as it walks across it.

I think I'll wait for this technology to come down in price. It's so tempting but way too pricey.
