JazzMutant Lemur V2 Software: Tweakin' Screens Just Got Better
Coming out of the sewers, where television assures me mutants live, JazzMutant surfaces in time for Winter NAMM 2009, where parties interested in state-of-the-art touch screen controllers can marvel at the Lemur V2 software. The Lemur controller provides a stunning way for performers to use light, video and sound with multitouch-sensitive control, winning fans with leagues of their own fans -- people like Richie Hawtin, Bjork and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Lemur version 2 ushers in improvements across the board from workflow to scripting to features.
With the Lemur V2 software, you can pile containers and access content via individual tabs. Keep your performance organized into tabs so that each switch is just one bank away. A new Breakpoint object also helps with control of synth or sampler envelopes thanks to a multi-segment envelope editor. Bypass knob assignment and make your adjustments through on-screen envelope representations. Add more breakpoints with a double touch.
V2 software also allows you to clone a controller object with Alias. This takes up less memory and time than setting up a new object with the same characteristics. The mirror images are also linked for adjustments. Additionally, Lemur objects can be used to remote control the mouse cursor or computer keyboard.
A new Gesture object emulates trackpad control, recognizing gestures and providing three ways to interact with your sound: pinch, rotate and trace. These actions send different messages to your computer -- now if only I had the same Gesture object control on my morning commute to work. Anyone who cuts me off gets the old "pinch and rotate" gesture.
Design has also gotten smarter. The LemurMenu object is a new pop-up menu selection tool. JazzEditor also lets you breezily customize your interface thanks to drag and drop, and a color picker lets you make things easy on your eyes.
Finally, the JazzEditor features a new Multiline script pane that makes the previously impossible currently possible. Modify physical behavior, looks or size of an object in realtime. Touch a pad to add balls to any Multiball object, zoom in on faders or modify text content via MIDI or OSC. If you use Ableton this makes it possible to receive and display clip names and colors from your Lemur. You'll forget you even have a computer!
