JBL EON 10 versus JBL PRX 512M

By: Bruce Loeffler (not verified)
I speak for groups of 50 - 100 people and need a very portable powered speaker to take on airplanes with me. How does the new PRX 512M compare to the EON 10 as far as quality and durability? I've never heard of the PRX series, but it sounds intriguing. The EON sounds fine, but does not have enough power to reach 100 people adequately. Is the PRX 512 the answer? Also, what type of carrying case could I use to send it on the airplane. Bear in mind that the entire weight must be less than 50 pounds, incuding the bag/case. Bruce

Bruce,

I too have been wondering what type of case to use for a JBL Eon 10 when going on an aircraft??? Did you ever get an answer to your question from anybody?

Jbl Eon 15g2

By: Conrad (not verified)
Hi I Wonder if someone can be so kind as to help me out. I want to find out if its possible to loop from one EON to another Eon with a audio signal but not nenecessarily have 220v power to the next speaker, will it still work? will the one jbl amplify the signal and send it to the next or does each speaker need to amplify the signal by itself? Thanks Conrad

older 10" Eon VS newer 10" Eon

By: rick (not verified)

Hi,
I have a couple of the older Eon 10" powered cabinets which are great but I could use just a bit more power. Is it true that the newer 10" powered Eon version has more power? Is the newer Eon any heavier than the older one?
thanks!
Rick

CLIF BARKALOW: Hi. My name is Clif Barkalow. I'm from Sigmet Corporation. I'm manufacturer's representative for JBL, located in New Jersey. I'll tell you a little bit about JBL today, and the first product line I'm going to talk about is EON.

EON is a self-contained, self-powered, biamplified speaker. We make a few different models. First of all, I'm going to tell you a little bit about the EON10 G2 and the EON15 G2. The EON10 G2 has a 10" low-frequency woofer with a 1" high-frequency driver. The EON15 G2 has a 15" low-frequency woofer with a 1" high-frequency driver. Both of those boxes will give you approximately 300 watts to the woofer and 100 watts to the high-frequency driver. The EON10 G2 is going to give you 150 watts to the woofer and 50 watts to the high-frequency driver.

The unique thing about the EON15 G2, some of the attributes about it -- I'm going to spin this around and tell you a little bit about what we have here. First of all, the rear of the box will provide you with an XLR input and an XLR output. The XLR input has a recessed switch which says micro line. Simply, you can plug a microphone into this by depressing the mic switch. You've got gain. If it's on line mode, you have to use like a pen or a small screwdriver to pop it out to get it into line mode. Volume control controls that input. There's also a mix and a loop switch. By hitting the mix button in, this gain and the tone control switch I'll get to in a minute are fed into this output. By being in the standard loop mode, meaning whatever signal goes in loops right out unaffected by anything else.

A little bit more about that some of the other features that this particular speaker, it's got a two-input line switch, which also will sum left and right. So, for example, I can take a microphone, a CD player, which would sum the left and right down to one mono channel and feed this internal speaker. I've also got a high and low tone controls. If the switch is set to mix, it will feed the tone controls and the volume to the output. One of the unique things about this box that works very well is for example you're a wedding DJ and you need to do a little small sound system in the cocktail hour for the kids, you take your CD player, you take your wireless mic, one speaker, you're good to go, do the cocktail hour, grab the speaker, run back in, put it up on the stand, plug it back in to your existing system, and you've got two systems in one now. A lot of acoustic guitar acts, you plug the acoustic guitar in, one microphone, you're good to go. Also, if you are in a situation where you happen to lose your mixer, went down for the night, you can get through the night.

Some of the other things that are unique about the EON system is that the box will tilt back and it's now a floor wedge. A stand mount on the bottom of the speaker with a locking connector so once it's up it locks with a thumb wheel back here.

We also offer a variety of accessories for this including brackets that mount onto the rear of the speaker to hang in on the wall. It stacks feet on the top. You can stack another EON on top of it. A simple IEC power cord connector, on switch. When the speaker is active, there's a green light power indicator telling you're good to go.

One of the things that I want to talk about with the EON is the unique look of the front. You've got a low-frequency driver and a high-frequency driver, and then you've got these strange looking ports. What these are are not only supports for the low-frequency tuning of the box, but behind each of these ports you've got an amplifier for the low-frequency driver and an amplifier for the high-frequency driver. As the woofer moves in and out, anybody, we all know, put your hand in front of the port, you feel air. This is now cooling the amplifier, so the speaker is self-cooling itself. Some of the competitors out there have heat sinks on the rear of the box, not a very efficient way to cool a speaker. The actually recommend that you put a fan on the back if it does get hot on thermal out. Our speaker is very, very efficient by this simple cooling here.

Another unique thing too is you'll notice that the entire baffle board is not made of metal or plastic or wood. -- Excuse me, it's made of metal. It's not made of plastic or wood. One of the reasons that is is that the amplifier is bolted to this baffle board. The entire baffle board will get warm, so like a car radiator it mass helps evacuate heat. This entire piece of aluminum now will help evacuate heat away from the amplifier.

We also offer in the line an EON15 P1, which is the original EON. It's 150 watts and 50 watts to the high-frequency driver, none of the mixer capabilities. It's just a bare bones, entry-level piece.

We also make an EON1500, which looks just like this but minus the power amplifier, so no mixer again. Simple. If the customer owns a power amplifier but wants a lightweight, rugged, plastic box, it's extremely long lasting, it doesn't break, it doesn't splinter, we offer that.

We also offer an EON15 sub, which is just a 15 minus the horn low-frequency subwoofer. Works very well to complement the 10" EON.

We offer a variety of bag accessories with wheels, without wheels, and that's pretty much EON.
