JBL Shows Off The JRX100 Series Sound Reinforcement Speaker
CLIF BARKALOW: Hi. This is Clif again. I’m going to talk a little bit about the JRX100 Series speakers. Within the line, we’ve got a few different models starting with the JRX112M, M meaning it also doubles as a monitor. The unique thing about the JRX100 series monitor is the pole socket that’s on the bottom, which I’ll get to in a second, because the same one holds these, incorporated into this speaker. But not only is it a monitor, it also is a full-range speaker that can go up on a stand.
JRX115: This model here has a 15” and a 1”, a 90 x 50 pattern meaning 90 horizontal, 50 vertical, 3/4” MDF, Ozite carpet covering on the rear of the speaker. It’s got a 1/4” and Speakon connector on a plastic recessed dish. All the connectors are recessed, steel handles on the side of the cabinet. One of the unique things about the cabinet is, which is also on the monitor is the dual-pole socket on the bottom. Dual-pole socket means that I can have a standard hang up on a stand. If I use the front socket, it’s a 10-degree down tilt. So, if I you have speakers in a board room or conference room where people are sitting, a 10-degree tilt is great. You get the speakers to stand up nice and high, speaker cabinets tilt down 10 degrees. That also is in the JRX112M monitor.
I’ll talk a little bit about our JRX line. In addition to the monitor and the single 15, we’ve got a dual 15 and a horn, which is the JRX125. That box does not go up on a speaker stand but is a quasi-three-way speaker where you would think it’s a two-way speaker it’s actually a three-way speaker. I’ll tell you a little bit about that. If you can imagine one more 15 on this speaker, the lower 15 does extreme low frequency, the second 15 does mids and lows, and the high-frequency horn takes care of the highs. So, what that -- is unique about that is not only for phase cancellation and comb filtering where two woofers step all over each other, being close together, the unique thing that you’ll be able to use by having that type of configuration is that you don’t -- a lot of DJs don’t need a subwoofer. Double 15s got enough punch, enough bottom end to get away without using a sub.
The other speakers within the line, which I’ll show in a couple of minutes, are the subwoofers. But first, let me tell you a little bit about the power ratings.
JRX112M is a 250-watt speaker; we want to power it with a 500-watt amplifier. JRX115M: Same power rating. JRX125, which is the double 15 and the horn wants to see an 800-watt amplifier; it’s a 500-watt recommended power rating. The JRX118S is a 4-ohm 18, it’s 350 watts, same thing with our powered versions, 350 watts.
All JRX speakers, excluding the subwoofers, have what’s known as SonicGuard. What SonicGuard is a, in layman’s simple terms, it’s a light bulb that takes over the high-frequency driver. In other words, if you put too much power into the speaker cabinet, the light bulb is going to come on and take off the excess power.
