The JBl VRX900 High Performance PA Series
SIMON JONES: So, I started off by talking about design. This is a show about design and launching design. The other product I’m going to introduce right no is called the VRX928, and I need to back up a little bit to tellyou what that is and explain a little bit about that.
Our VRX900 Series is our top-level portable PA system. It’s line array for the portable PA user. The VRX932LA has been a very successful product for JBL. We developed it with a user that had been at our top-of-the-line, high-performance rental system that was on, the VERTEC system, which is being used by all the major acts. It goes to arenas, stadiums using the line array principle.
Line array is when we use multiple boxes in a very compact, high-performance array that delivers very even, super even high-fidelity coverage over a given area. Very predictable, very accurate. How can we bring that technology down in to a smaller environment for the portable PA customer? And that’s within the scope of the VRX900 Series.
The 932LA uses exactly the same principles but on a much smaller scale. We use a 12” low-frequency device and we have three compression drivers on the high-frequency device here. Three compression drivers act as a single point source that delivers coherent coverage pattern, say for that maximum high-fidelity, smooth, even coverage. If you need more performance, basically the fundamental principle is just adding another box, and making the line array, making the system bigger.
All that hardware to do that is integrated into the product. There’s no math, no calculations that you typically find on the higher-end touring rental systems, so it’s very easy to deploy, rig, install, tear down. So, with all those things in mind, we developed the 932 with its companion subwoofer, the 918S for a high-performance portable PA system.
Based on the success of that, we thought how can we expand the line and improve on that. And we thought, well, we saw this opportunity even in smaller venues where the requirement wasn’t necessary for the big 12” two way. So, we developed the VRX928.This has an 8” woofer and two compression drivers. It operates on exactly the same principle as the bigger brother but we just made it smaller for smaller venues. So, if you look at, say the Rolling Stones on tour right now with the VERTEC line array, it’s exactly the same technology brought down to operate in a smaller environment, and be able to use with less fuss and simplicity but for really high-fidelity, accurate results. Thank you.
