Jon Kammerer Guitars: Custom Inlay

June 15, 2007
Jon Kammerer's Jon Kammerer Custom Inlay Wood Guitars at The Chicago Guitar Show
Jon Kammerer, Master Luthier, combines his computer design and woodworking skills to make unique electric guitars that are more like works of art. He showed us some beautiful patterns of his own, but he will take your own idea and run with it, totally custom. No, that's NOT a paint job, that's INLAID WOOD. Don't you DARE smash this axe!
See more of Jon's work at his official website.

ROB WARMOWSKI: Hey everybody. It’s Rob from Gearwire at the Chicago Guitar Show. I’m here with Jon Kammerer, custom luthier. How are you doing, Jon?

JON KAMMERER: Doing great, Rob.

ROB WARMOWSKI: He’s been doing great the last three videos, and here’s the fourth one. We were about to walk away and then Jon said, “Hold it.” You should take a look at these, and he showed a couple of guitars. Here’s a couple of an incredible amount of woodcutting going on in the actual assembly of the guitar. Tell us a little bit about what we’re looking at with this camouflage style.

JON KAMMERER: This camouflage-style guitar, it’s all separate pieces of wood that’s drafted up on the computer, cut out on computer-controlled mill the glued up into a block and then it’s cut out into a guitar body. But you can pick the wood color. This one is a woodland camo. I have a desert camo available and you can also do different shapes. I have flag guitars I do, and I’ve done flames at the top such that it’s totally custom. You can pick, if you have an idea, you can pick what you want and I can probably make it for you.

ROB WARMOWSKI: That’s pretty amazing stuff. Now, roughly how many piece opf wood are we looking at here?

JON KAMMERER: This one here probably has about 35 to 40 pieces.

ROB WARMOWSKI: That is truly amazing. We do have a good shot of that, right?

GEARWIRE STAFF: Yes we do.

ROB WARMOWSKI: Yes we do. [LAUGHING] Yes we do. Well, Jon, thank you so much for showing us these very special pieces.

JON KAMMERER: Thank you.

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
