Keith McMillen Instruments KeyWorx Software: Hands-Free Control
SoftStep, the multi-touch foot controller from Keith McMillen Instruments (KMI), now comes bundled with KeyWorx, a software application (Mac / Win) that provides even more hands-free control options over your computer applications.
With KeyWorx, you can select programs, control the cursor or mouse clicks, and send out keystrokes, thus increasing efficiency and reducing repetitive stress injuries. Using SoftStep in conjunction with KeyWorx software allows you to set up commands for each of the SoftStep's 11 multi-touch key surfaces. KeyWorx software can bring a browser forward, launch email programs, zoom in and out (from a single key), control volume, scroll through folders, open documents, and output complex key commands, all from simple foot movements.
The USB-powered SoftStep has a four character alphanumeric display and works alongside keyboards, computer mice, and other interface devices. According to KMI, repetitive tasks can be assigned to any key and cursor / click control allows you to keep your hands comfortably on the keyboard. KeyWorx runs on Mac or PC and can remember up to 100 sets of commands, allowing you to customize SoftStep for all of your applications. The SoftStep has a rugged yet lightweight design that is small enough to fit into a briefcase or backpack.
Originally designed for musicians and recording studios, the SoftStep with KeyWorx is now a valuable tool for anyone, KMI says, including video editors, graphic designers, data entry professionals, software programmers, and computer gamers seeking a more productive means of communication with their computer. KeyWorx software includes preset templates for World of Warcraft, Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro.
SoftStep owners may download KeyWorx software for free from the Keith McMillen Instruments Web site. New users will get KeyWorx with the SoftStep ($289 MSRP). For more information, visit keithmcmillen.com.
