Kenton MIDI USB Host Interface Introduced

July 14, 2011
Kenton Electronics introduced the MIDI USB Host, a solution that interfaces USB-enabled devices to 5-pin DIN MIDI connections.

Be a good host and welcome the Kenton MIDI USB Host to your studio setup. The new MIDI USB Host allows you to interface USB-enabled devices directly to those with standard 5-pin DIN MIDI connections, either In or Out, without a computer.

This MIDI solution was designed to provide a simple and straight-forward means of connecting any class-compliant USB device to a standard 5-pin DIN MIDI device. The MIDI USB Host enables, for example, direct connection of a USB controller or keyboard to another MIDI instrument that has only a 5-pin DIN MIDI connection.

As a mains-powered unit, the compact and rugged MIDI USB Host features a USB port (USB A socket) and MIDI In and Out sockets (both on 5-pin DIN). As Kenton notes, MIDI data received at the MIDI In socket will be sent to the USB device, while MIDI data received from the USB device will be sent to the MIDI Out socket. What's more, the MIDI USB Host can provide up to 500 mA of USB Buss power to the USB device, if required.

The MIDI USB Host is ideal for anyone wanting to connect a USB-enabled MIDI device to a 5-pin DIN MIDI device without having to use a computer, making the USB MIDI Host the right accessory for both live performances and studio use.

Kenton MIDI USB Host specs:

  • Power Input: 5V DC (regulated) -- use only the supplied adaptor
  • Power: 90 mA, 2.1 mm plug (center positive) -- 510 mA available for attached USB device
  • MIDI ports: 1 x In, 1 x Out (both 5-pin DIN)
  • Weight: 100 g (excluding power supply)
  • Dimensions: 110 x 55 x 32 mm
  • Power supply: A 5V power supply appropriate to the destination country is supplied with the unit
  • Leads: No leads are supplied with the unit

The MIDI USB Host comes with a 12 month (from purchase date) back to base warranty, meaning that if something goes wrong with the unit during that first year, the customer must arrange and pay for shipping to and from Kenton Electronics.

Kenton's new MIDI USB Host is priced at £70 GBP excluding VAT (approximately $113). For more details, visit www.kentonuk.com.
