Koblo Vibra3000: Bringing Sweatbands Back In Style
We check out the Koblo Vibra3000, an inexpensive software synthesizer that provides bass, leads and pads. Bill Holland checks out the Vibra3000 using a theme from early 80s infomercials to demonstrate a range of pads flourishing enough to suit up an entire football team.
Check out some of the sounds this synth will afford you and the features you can use to tweak them.

BILL HOLLAND: Welcome back to Gearwire.Com. My name is Bill Holland, and this is the Vibra300 from the developers at Koblo. We heard right there was a little bit of white noise. This is the demo version. So, occasionally, if you download this, it will put out a little bit of white noise, but it's an affordable way to get lead, bass, and pad synthesizers for an inexpensive price. Now, let's take a look at the interface real quick. You'll notice we have our oscillators here, multi options, major and minor scales.
Now, major and minor is similar to auto-chord that used to appear on a lot of older keyboards.

This creates an auto-chord out of your oscillators, and then you can use to multi 1, multi 2, or multi 3 for three oscillators. Sub controls our sub-frequencies. Noise controls the noise present in the sound...,

Then we can mix our noise levels here. You have our filter section which includes cutoff, resonance, envelope, attack, and decay.

Unfortunately, it only offers you the regular high pass and the low pass. There are no band pass options here. Under amp, we have attack, decay, and release.

And on the end, portamento control.

Now, we have bass, pad, and effects presets, so let's take a look at this really quickly. Leads, some very strong leads, very good at cutting through a mix.

We have our bass presets.

Some very strong pads here are taking advantage of the multi mode and the oscillators.

Ooh, very loud pads evidently.

And lastly, let's take a look at the effects here.

It's free? When I navigate
It's free? When I navigate to the Koblo page, it says that the Vibra3000 is $20. Koblo studio is free though.
Fixed, thanks. The trial
Fixed, thanks. The trial version we tested was freely downloadable, but the full product is 19.95. Had a mix-up while writing this and thought I edited out all the places where I said it was free.
Missed one.
Almost had a seizure!!!
The "follow the mouse pointer" video thing is kind of annoying...The constant movement of the video is so distracting...you guys need to find a better method when doing these kind of Vids. Sure I am not alone on this..just my 2 cents.
totally with you
I tried out the "smooth pan" function in my screencap software instead of "follow the pointer". I thought it would be smoother. Evidently not. Fixed screen from now on, everybody.
Did anyone catch the Ace of
Did anyone catch the Ace of Base promotion at Koblo's page, verrry interesting. Guess someone did see the sign.
don't turn around
did you see the remix competition? I smell the sleeper hit of 2009 dance floors everywhere.
Did you catch a sight of the
Did you catch a sight of the big, fat brother guy in the band in that photo? I can't believe you can get the euro.
ha ha
do you mean the music or the currency?
This was a little confusing
This was a little confusing at first. There are several tracks playing, including a bass and drums, then the video demonstrates bass sounds, but NOT on the bass track. So, then, should we assume that the bass and drums are NOT being done by the Vibra3000?
Sound pretty like a pretty nice synth, just had a little trouble following what was going on at first.
Thanks for the demo Bill!
no problem
I'm taking all of the feedback in and applying it to future demos. It's good to actually read what everyone likes and doesn't likes. First thing to go is the "smooth pan" setting on my screencap software. I think I should have just soloed the Vibra...and I should have picked something from "Look Sharp" or "I'm the Man".
As a side note, I've noticed the Oberheim drum machine used in that song going for cheap on ebay lately. Evidently, it's also the "justice" sound. FYI
