Check out the Korg Wavedrum Mini percussion synthesizer, the performance-friendly, more mobile version of the original Wavedrum.

The Wavedrum Mini has a playable pad, speaker, sounds, effects, patterns and a loop recorder, as well as a Sensor Clip that turns any object into a second sound source. In addition, the Mini offers 100 professionally programmed sounds, from acoustic-emulating drum and percussion to modern synth sounds. For both rhythmic and melodic performances, bass, tuned percussion, and stringed instruments are also included.

Sounds can be triggered expressively from the Wavedrum Mini’s pad, and additional sounds can be accessed at the same time by attaching the Sensor Clip to a table top, cup, your own foot, or any object. The unit's ten multi-effects range from spatial-type effects (delay, chorus, and reverb) and modern effects (filters and pitch-shifters) to distortion-type effects that deliver analog-style warmth. Any effect can be quickly applied to either sound, Korg says.

The Wavedrum Mini's rhythm department includes 100 rhythm patterns covering a range of styles. According to Korg, these patterns can be used as a beginner’s guide to help keep a steady rhythm, or to keep the groove going while performing or jamming. Along with the preset patterns, the Looper function will record and play back any Wavedrum Mini performance. An unlimited number of overdubs can be added too (the total record length is 25 seconds).

The portable Wavedrum Mini is battery-powered, though it comes with an AC adapter as well. The built-in speaker allows the Wavedrum Mini to be used on its own, and a headphone output is provided for private practice.

For jam sessions or hands-free performances, the Wavedrum Mini comes with a mounting strap that lets you attach it to your leg, essentially turning your thigh into a makeshift tabletop. The Sensor Clip can then be attached to the upper opening of the your shoe (for foot-tapping rhythms).
