May 30, 2006
Korg demos its new X50 music synthesizer, which features the same 64 MB ROM found in Korg's TR Series workstations. The X50 also sports 61 velocity-sensitive keys, 62-voice polyphony, 512 user programs, dual polyphonic apreggiators, included sound editing software, four-channel audio output, and the ability to combine up to 8 programs at once to make entirely new sounds. Oh, and a partridge in a pear tree. Tipping the scales at less than ten pounds, the X50 easy to grab and take to a friend's house for recording demos.

RICH FORMIDONI: Hi. Thanks for visiting Gearwire.Com. My name is Rich Formidoni. I'm a product specialist with Korg USA, and I'm going to show you two new synthesizers, the X50 music synthesizer and the new Micro X.

So, let's get started with the X50. What you're looking at here is a portable, compact, lightweight synthesizer with the exact same 64-MB wave ROM that is found in our TR series workstations. It's got fantastic sound.

Great beats going on because of the dual polyphonic arpeggiators.

Our orchestra patches have always been stellar and the X50 is no exception.

In addition to that, you're going to find lots of great synth oriented patches.

The sounds in the X50 synthesizer are extremely professional down to the most basic piano.

We've got a fantastic Rhodes too.

So, the synthesis powering the X50 is clearly amazing. The other stuff about it that's amazing is how light it is. You've got two convenient carrying handles, making it very gig ready. Navigation is done through this intuitive click point interface that sort of looks like a track ball, and you've got number buttons that you can easily dial up your sounds with. You can also search by category and audition your sounds before you even play them.

So the other great thing about the X50, you've got a USB port on the back. That USB port leads you right to our included editor/librarian software. What this allows you to do is have complete mouse control over every parameter in the X50 and it runs as a plugin. In addition to running in standalone mode, the editor can run as a VST, RTAS, or Audio Unit plugin in your favorite sequencer so Logic, Cubase, Sonar. Whatever you've got, the X50 is ready to rock. When you save your songs, the songs will be saved in the X50 as well, so you're pretty much ready to go.

And that is the X50 music synth. Now, I'd like to move you over to the Micro X.

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
