Korg

Just because the Korg SV-1 Stage Vintage has the word "stage" in its name, doesn't mean you won't want one for your studio. Hence we bring you this footage of the SV-1 in action, direct from the recent convening of the Audio Engineering Society.

While seemingly more of a NAMM-y product, the Korg Wavedrum was nonetheless rolled out at AES to an intrigued and eager crowd. We got Korg to give us a quick tour of all this clever percussion trigger / module can do.  

The Korg Wavedrum digital percussion synthesizer is back, this time with lots of plastic and the look of a round Tenori-on. Use the silver disc as a drum head, synth sound triggering device, or coaster.

The day that the Korg SV-1 Stage Piano will be hitting the shores of the west is near. After that demonstration in Japan, Korg has just officially declared its release.  

As some people around the corner noticed that the Korg SV-1 had been demo-ed somewhere in Japan with speculative specifications flying around the web, it so happened that it was not alone. Two other new products were there; the Korg microSampler is one of them.  

The Wavedrum was one unique instrument that had a cult following during its heyday in the 90s. Bringing back the nostalgia with a today's updated technology, the Korg Wavedrum WD-X has been sighted in Japan alongside the SV-1 and the microSAMPLER.  

Word on the street is Korg is issuing a new stage piano modeled after vintage electronic keyboard instruments. Vintage aesthetics meets vintage and modern sounds through the Korg SV1.  

Small things may easily get lost, and that includes your Korg NanoSERIES controllers. Stow away your teeny weeny contollers in style with the Korg NanoBAG to make sure you never misplace them again.  

Josh Benash of Kiss Kiss is not at all shy when describing the serious limitations of his Korg Delta. In fact, he's proud of its idiosyncracies. The Kiss Kiss sound wouldn't be what it is without the difficult monster that is this keyboard.  

Chris Corner does visuals for IAMX as well as music, and he was thinking that maybe having two Korg machines for the sound and image might be great. Think again. Still, he likes the Korg Kaptivator plenty well for the IAMX light show. It's just that triggering it isn't as easy as he had expected.  

Before a recent sold-out IAMX show at Chicago's Subterranean, Chris Corner sat with us in a dark moody room and talked about "magic," a.k.a, the Korg D888. Corner needed something reliable and functional to bring the IAMX sound from the studio to the stage, and the D888 works mighty fine for him. Just don't tell anyone, or he gets kicked out of the Magician's Alliance.  

Creation of future-proof audio recording and archiving has been made accessible and affordable to the public via Korg's MR Series of recorders. With new file editing tools and multiple-format import and export capabilities, Korg AudioGate Version 2.0 now makes audio archiving and recording even more accessible (and still exactly as affordable).  

One of the distinguishing characteristics Kylesa's unorthodox approach to metal is their extremely low tuning. The Korg AX1G is a rudimentary multieffects pedal that is great for beginners looking to experiment, but not so respected in the pro gear realm. Of course, there's no reason to throw it away when you upgrade -- as experimental musician Matt Sekel can attest, there are some pretty crazy sounds you can find in cheap boxes like these.  

This is the NanoPad from Korg, a compact controller that delivers the feel of an MPC for the amount of money you get from a bag of bottle returns (sorry . . . Michigan joke).

The Korg MR-2000S DSD Recorder impressed users so much that they wanted more . . . more tracks, that is! Korg responds at Winter NAMM 2009 with the promise of an OS upgrade that will allow you to process eight tracks at once instead of two -- problem is, you'll just need four MR-2000S recorders.  

It comes once a year. Winter NAMM. Much like your birthday, the weeks fly by and then suddenly it is upon you. The difference at NAMM, of course, is that you cannot purchase the presents yet. Also, the last time I had a birthday, I did not have to check in at the press booth and risk getting run over by a guy in an Elmo suit.  

We thought that the Korg R3, released last year, was supposed to be the next microKORG. I guess we were wrong, because Korg today unveiled the microKORG XL; it sports a new-vintage (i.e. a different retro styled style) aesthetic, improved keys and microphone, and the same gooseneck mic, RADIAS and MMT effects from the R3. And let's not forget the juiced-up vocoder.  

One of Alex Rose's live tools for Minus The Bear is the Korg padKONTROL. This MIDI controller lets Alex do numerous things while he's doing numerous other things to bring such a wide sonic variety from the studio to the stage.
