Lace PS-905 Noiseless P-90 Replacement Looks And Sounds Smart On Henry's SG Classic (Video)
What did it take for Henry to mod his beloved and otherwise stock Gibson SG Classic? No less than the promise of a noiseless, higher-output, and more articulate version of the guitar's bridge P-90. The Lace PS-905 is a classic looking P-90 replacement, and its tone is everything you'd expect from a top-notch aftermarket sing-coil. The only thing that seems to be missing in this video is the expected 60-cycle hum.
Of course, if you're REALLY missing the noise, you can always do as Henry has for this clip and leave one of your stock PU's installed. For everyone else, the PS-905 bridge pickup is available in a set along with the PS-900 noiseless neck pickup. We're confident that a perusal of this video review will sell you on both.

Info installation Lace P905
Hello,
have you done a deep mod on Gibson SG guitar for to install the Lace P90 Pickup, or it have the same dimension of classic humbucker that you can found on SG standard?
I have a SG Std and I would like to replace my classic std humbuckers with Lace P90.
thanks

RE: Info installation Lace P905
Actually, to install that pickup in an SG Standard you would either need to get a new pickguard (the slots for humbuckers are larger than the standard soapbar P90 size) or be alright with the fact that there is going to be empty space above and below each pickup.
Another SG/P90 loving friend of mine (from the band Suns, check them out - www.myspace.com/sunsband) dropped humbucker-sized P90s in his Standard, with very little fuss. Sounds rad.

It's also worth noting that this guitar is not completely stock. I had something done which I refer to as the Genital Hercules mod... but I can't show my entire hand, now can I?
(The mod was not used during this demonstration.)

You're like the Mr. Wonder of guitarists.
Single Coil vs Humbucker
The Gibson P-90 is still one of the best pickups ever made. It has a very musical sound and has all the overtones of a single coil.
When the music got heavier in the '70s, everyone wanted a humbucker. This changed the music to a much heavier sound. Unfortunately, the "highs" were cut-off and the pickup dominated...frequently overriding the vocals and sounding too much like noise.
As with all things, my opinion of the sound is personal and subjective. However, I love the way single coils fit into the music. It's too bad Gibson pretty much eliminated the P-90...especially in the neck position where a single coil is the only way to go.
PEACE
