Laney GH100L is Loud and Punchy, Not Unlike Some of Your Favorite Musicians

April 13, 2009
Laney GH100L

The Laney GH100L has a simple front panel but arresting, complex sound -- or so says our intrepid studio wonk, Owen O'Malley. In fact, if the GH100L were a fine wine, we would encourage you to hold it up to the light, stick your nose in it and swish it around your mouth. Since, without an extremely large and well trained mouth, it would be dangerous to attempt such a stunt, we advise you only try eating a Laney GH100L if you are Michael Lotito.

Instead, why don't you check out this demo, in which Owen O'Malley plugs into the Laney for a look and a listen to its delightful gain structure. Everything from its crystaline cleans to stadium crushing distortion tones sounds pretty stellar on this hundred watt head.

If you like, you can even purchase one of these bad boys and and follow along with the convenient step-by-step instructions provided here. Not like we're suggesting that, it was just an idea. Anyway. We've got ours already.

These amps to do not suck!
I have owned one since 94 and still gig it now.
They eat Marshalls for breakfast and dinner!
Poor comment Period!

Laney GH100L

By: Anonymous Thruth Cunt (not verified)

I've used one of these live and boy do they NOT suck. Didn't even go near the drive limits being a ska/reggae/punk player with a cool pedal stomp box set up, so if you're after a sound that will cut through dry ice and teenage boredom then forget Marshall Valvestate etc (they DO suck)as do Line6, Laney is organic bliss at it's best!

I love these laney amps, way better than any marshalls or boogies that ive played on. You guys should demo the gh100 Tony Iommi head it is the unholiest of the unholy. plus no one else has done demo on it.

I've done this before but I'll be damned if I don't recognize what you're playing at the beginning, what is it?

I own 2 of these heads along with a Peavey JSX, Marshall TSL 100, and I've been through so many diffrent tube heads VHT, Krank, Carvin, other Marshalls and I must say theses heads are not for everyone. They are by far one of best tube heads I HAVE EVER HEARD. Very loud, percusive and clear. They will rip your head off. Have yet to run into something with more balls. With good tubes my volume is on 4. Your tube head (name here) is on 10. I am drowning out your sound.

Old Friend Found Again

By: Anonymous Coward (not verified)

after using one in an old band years and bloody years ago i've come full circle and am looking for a Gh100L. a huge amp but hard to use if you're a noob, i have a Sunn Model T that i've been using forever and they're really similar, simple but with really complex tones and really too loud for anything other than 'real' live work. i say the Laney and the Sunn are my hands down faves and i own a Mesa Roadking! but do yourselves, and everyone around you, a favour and get an attenuator! peace
