Lexicon PCM96 Surround Reverb Processor: 5.1 Channels To Hold You
The Lexicon PCM96 digital reverb has been around a little while, but the 125th AES Convention saw the introduction of the 5.1 surround version of this powerful reverb unit and processor. You can see it in this video, sitting hig atop the Lexicon studio totem, signifying both it's power and price tag.
Like its predecessor, the PCM96 Surround work as a hardware plugin, and in this video is shown in a loving, adult relationship with Apple Logic Pro. Write you local legislator.
PAUL FABY: My name is Paul Faby, and I’m the director of Lexicon Professional. We’re here showing off our new PCM96 surround box. It’s a followup of our original PCM96 bus, but this version is the multichannel, ready to do surround up to a 5.1 mix. It has a number of different configurations. It also has the I/O to support the different multichannel configurations including a single stereo, parallel stereo, four monos at once, and two monos, and a stereo at once.
Like the 96, it has a full DAW integration through an Audio Unit and VST format. You’ll see up on the screen here we’re running Logic Pro where you can see the top eight parameters of the algorithm that’s currently loaded. PCM96 surround chip has over 2,200 preset, which allow users to easily get to a sound that they’re looking for. Each reverb has preset that comes with the normal preset version, a band pass, a lighter version, a darker version, and a notched version of each preset. This allows users to manipulate the reverb and to be able to drop it into a dense mix and to deal with frequency buildup situations where it’s becoming a problem.
It has two skews. One unit will be coming with an XLR/AES version, digital only, and the other skew will be an AES and analog version of the box. To get into this 1U box, it will be a DB25 breakout connector and the MAP price will be $4,000, and the box will be shipping in the middle of December. Thank you very much.
