Line 6 POD X3 Live Lets You Mix And Match Amps, Cabs And Mikes
If you don't mind digital representations of analog amps, the Line 6 POD X3 is a near endless box of combination and experimentation. You ever want to blast a Dual Rectifier through a 1x8? Now you can (kind of). Bill Holland selects some of his favorite preset amp / cab / mic combos before switching things around.
BILL HOLLAND: So here we have our first amp simulator. We’re going to look at the 2002 Angel P-Ball. Josh?

BILL HOLLAND: Now, this is a model of the ENGL Powerball recording channel 2 of the four-channel amp, which is a soft lead.

BILL HOLLAND: Moving on, we’re looking at the 1963 Blackface Vibro. This is based off the Fender Blackface Vibroverb. Josh?

BILL HOLLAND: Moving on, we’re looking at the 2002 Bomber XTC. This is a model of the Bogner XTC amp. Josh?

BILL HOLLAND: Moving on, the next stop is going to be a classic amp from a classic company, the 1990 British J800 mimicking the Marshall JCM800.

BILL HOLLAND: Now, many people out there love the sound of an Orange amp, so we’re going to move over to the Citrus D30 mimicking the 2005 Orange AD30TC.

BILL HOLLAND: Stop for a second Josh. I’m going turn it up a little. Play real quick.
[J. IRVING-GILES PLAYING GUITAR THROUGH THE LINE 6 POD X3 LIVE]
BILL HOLLAND: Okay good. Stop. Okay Josh. Go.

BILL HOLLAND: The next stop is going to be the Class A-30 Fawn. This is a mimic of the VOX AC30 amp recorded through the normal channel of a non-top boost. Go ahead, Josh.

BILL HOLLAND: And the next final stop is the Gibtone Expo, 1960 Gibson model GA-18T Explorer, and here it is the 1960 Gibtone Expo.

BILL HOLLAND: Now, keep in mind as well that you can switch up the mics at any point. If Josh were to play again and I would switch up the mics, you’ll see how you can change up the sound on the fly.
[J. IRVING-GILES PLAYING GUITAR THROUGH THE LINE 6 POD X3 LIVE]
BILL HOLLAND: Off-axis mic.
[J. IRVING-GILES PLAYING GUITAR THROUGH THE LINE 6 POD X3 LIVE]
BILL HOLLAND: On axis. Hear the difference in sound, and you can also go as a dynamic mic...
[J. IRVING-GILES PLAYING GUITAR THROUGH THE LINE 6 POD X3 LIVE]
BILL HOLLAND: ...and a condenser mic.
[J. IRVING-GILES PLAYING GUITAR THROUGH THE LINE 6 POD X3 LIVE]
BILL HOLLAND: And again, if you’re in a situation where you want to change up the cab, you can actually change up which model you’re using within the actual amp setting.
[J. IRVING-GILES PLAYING GUITAR THROUGH THE LINE 6 POD X3 LIVE]
BILL HOLLAND: Again, there are a lot of things you can do with the POD X3 Live, but for now these are just some of the options. I’m Bill Holland and this is Gearwire.Com.

POD XT 3
These box are so lifeless...
Pod XT 3
My feeling was that the amp simulation and distortion is pretty bad, but I like a lot of the digital effects and delay effects. pretty cool.
POD X3
Don't mean to disrespect but those tones were horrible. With proper tweaking, the X3 can sound so much better than that! To each his own I guess...
POD X3 Live! One of the best pedals I have ever encountered!
Hey
I had an great time with this pedal. Not only the fact that it has some GREAT amp models, but also because you don't have to bend down in order to change the effects!
Instead you can use software along with the USB on the X3 to change the effects easily using the mouse. This made things a lot easier for me as I am always trying to make the strangest effects I can think of whilst using my default recording program (Ableton Live 7).
I would strongly recommend this pedal for anyone gigging as it is very VERY reliable and can handle whatever you throw at it! It is also great for recording as it has low latency when recording into different programs.
I am currently selling this on eBay because I am trying to get a Macbook now.
So grab a bargain now while you can :)
Ste-Bo!
