Lollar Supro Steel Guitar Pickup: WWRCD?
String-through pickups such as the Supro/Valco/National pickups are legends among the realm of guitar pickups. Looking like humbuckers yet in essence are single-coil in design have that much sought-after unique growl. An example of a guitar that had this distinction is the so-called "Coodercaster" (calm down. . . it's named after slide guitarist Ry Cooder. . . HEY CALM DOWN). The Lollar Supro Steel Guitar Pickup packs that sound as the original string-through Supros dictate.
This Supro-style steel guitar pickup is very much the exact copy of that used in the "Coodercaster". It has humbucking capabilities yet sounds like a single-coil, having as well high-output amalgamated with the clarity of a low-output pickup. The steel plate that goes over the strings distributes the magnetic field to surround the strings and therefore boosting the sensitivity of the pickup and reduces the magnetic pull over the strings for increased sustain. The Supro Steel Guitar Pickup is made with Alnico 5 magnets and dual-split humbucking construction with adjustable poles. Unlike the original Supros, this replacement is made without the built-in bridge so that it can be mounted on any guitar. Installation requires a small route 1/8" deep or be surface mounted on top of a pickguard. Lollar also provides shims for guitars with tall bridges.
Now, I would assume that the confusion is already settled. This pickup has that humbucking capability with a single-coil sound, having that dual-split humbucking design. Humbucking qualities while retaining that single-coil twang is really a dream for some to achieve and is a dream come true thanks to the Lollar Supro Steel Guitar Pickup. This replacement model can be ordered via the Lollar website for 250.00 USD.
