Mackie ProFX USB-Equipped Compact Mixers Feature Traditional Mackie Quality, Dry Self-Deprication
Mackie always makes a strong showing at industry tradeshows, and 125th AES in San Fransisco is no exception. Their new ProFX line of mixers takes over from their DFX line, and offers significant upgrades.
Mackie product specialist Woody gives us the lowdown on the highlights of the ProFX series, and basically runs a clinic on how to seem self-deprecatory and salesman-y at the same time. Kudos, Woody, if that is your real hair.
JAMES “WOODY” WOODBURN: Hi. Welcome. We are here at the Mackie booth at AES in San Francisco, 2008, and I’m Woody, one of the product managers for the company, and I’m going to give you a quick run through on the ProFX range, a new range of mixers that we’re showing here.
Basically, the ProFX is the replacement for our current DFX range, compact, live sound focus mixers. Really cool new features on the ProFX. We’ve got the Mackie premium mic preamps. We got an all-new seven-bank graphic EQ. We’ve got all new Running Man effects; what a startling new name we came up with for those. All joking aside though, the effects are all new, co-written by our director of engineering. All of the presets are done by all the product management groups, some really cool useable real-world effects.
Other cool stuff on the mixers is built-in USB I/O for easy recording and playback, obviously for live sound stuff, integration, iTunes, all that sort of stuff in there. All-new chassis, great price points, essentially coming in at right about the same price point as the current DFX, so it’s a really exciting new product. Thank you.
