AES Vienna Video: Mackie Quad Gate/Compressor And Quad Equalizer
MACKIE REPRESENTATIVE: Another pair of products that are new market for us is the Quad Series. This is a four-channel compressor, and this is a four-channel RTA equalizer. A unique thing about this RTA equalizer is that as you can see, the green LEDs are showing you what the actual RTA response is, and you can look at either pre or post processing.
It’s extremely easy to use. Simply touching any frequency you want to work on and turning the knob, you will see that is now my EQ point. You can actually control multiple ones at once by simply touching then and doing a line like that and then raising or lowering multiple ones simultaneously, and I can look at the response curve pre and post processing which is unique.
You can see you have four channels A, B, C, and D. You can store 99 presets in here, and you can actually stereo link them simply by holding the two channels, and now that’s stereo. If I want to unlink it, same process, hold them, and that’s it. So, four-channel RTA. It’s actually very powerful and ships with the measurement mic which is calibrated to the unit, and these are currently available and so is this, the Quad Compressor.
Once again, it is a four-channel unit, same principle of holding two in order to get it to be in stereo. These two buttons, this is the gate button, and this is the compressor button. When I push compressor, this is now showing me all the legending down here based on the compressor. If I touch gate, it’s now all the legending up here. Pretty simple to understand, and I can hit compressor. Here’s my threshold. You can see the V pot corresponds to my threshold. You you’re your ratio, amount, soft or hard knee button. You have attack, release, auto-release button. You have a side chain, and on the side chain we actually have a built-in filter. So, if you wish to have a wide Q and maybe cue the side chain it too, okay you do that, and it works that way either in stereo or for every individual channel, and you can store and recall presets right here just like this one.
So, that’s the Quad Compressor and the Quad EQ. Actually, it’s interesting, the DSP, the SHARC DSP used in this unit is literally the same DSP and the same algorithms from the TT24 console. We got a lot of good response on that and how those compressors sound because they’re designed only for live and we decided why don’t we just but them in a box and make that available to other engineers using analog products. So, that’s what drove this. So, these are currently shipping and available.
