Mapex Zebrawood Pro "M": Is It Black With Blue Stripes, Or Vice Versa?
Finally! A Custom Mapex finish that will appeal to evolutionary biologists and Stryper fans alike: the new Zebrawood finish, available only as a limited edition series of Mapex's high-end Pro "M" series shells.
The Zebrawood Pro "M" shells are finished in a handcrafted, maple veneer that's been stained and grained* to resemble a Zebrawood-like pattern. The rest of the shell construction is all maple, like the other Pro "M" shells.
The Mapex Zebrawood Pro "M" will be made available in a component kit that will include a 22x18 bass drum, 10x8 and 12x9 tom toms, 14x14 and 16x16 floor toms and a 14x5.5 snare drum, as well as hardware for the bass drum mounted toms.
When asked about the origins and development of the Zebrawood finish, Artist Relations and Product Development Manager Joe Hibbs refused to take sides in the "camouflage vs. biting fly deterrent" evolutionary argument, saying only, "I'm a simple Artist Relations and Product Development Manager; I'm content with admiring and writing poetry about Zebrawood finished drum shells, and leave evolutionary arguments to the scientific community." Then he spend off into the California sun on his 1976 Harley Hardtail.
