Markbass TTE 500 Modern Vintage Head Introduced For Bass
In celebrating its 10th anniversary, Markbass launched a slew of new products. The first is the TTE 500, a "modern vintage" head with a tube preamp, tube compressor, Colour EQ filter (tube-driven VLE), and a new TTE (Tube Technology Emulator) analog power amp that is designed to sound like a tube power amp. This new head puts out 500W at 4 ohms and weighs 11.24 pounds.
According to the manufacturer, the TTE 500 is both modern and vintage, offering a warm sound and fresh takes on vintage filters. With the new head, sound comes through an old-style tube preamp, is fed through a tube compressor, then a simple 3-band passive EQ section, a "Colour" filter (a tube adaptation of the famous Markbass VLE control), and then finally gets amplified by the Technology Emulator power amp.
The old-style tube preamp is said to deliver a warm, round, captivating sound, while the onboard tube compressor's ratio and release parameters deliver features optimized for bass. Likewise, the Colour tube filter is a "super-warm" tube version of the Markbass VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) filter.
Very often Markbass analog power amps are mistaken for tube power amps, due to their incredibly warm tone, the manufacturer says. According to Markbass, the new TTE 500 head is not driven completely by tubes, but with Tube Technology Emulator (TTE), it sounds like it is.
