Marshall Class 5: No Tube Amp Can Get Simpler Than This Yet Still Retain A Lot Of Class

Marshall Class 5

Most guitar amps are simple enough to operate and use. Ever since the advent of digital technology, some guitarists don't really have a liking for complicated parameters and would just like to plug in, crank up, and make a lot of noise. Fortunately for people who want a tube amp with simple operation, Marshall now has an answer, the Marshall Class 5.

The Class 5 is a 5-watt vacuum tube guitar amplifier that has a very simple front panel: one input jack, four knobs for volume and three-band EQ (low, mid, high), power indicator and power switch. It's as simple as that without all the complicated @$&*.

Don't let its low wattage fool you; this amp can deliver great tones, ranging from a tube-warm clean at low volume settings to a powerful overdriven tone. Further tone shaping can be done in the EQ section, and you can control how dirty or clean your sound can be in conjunction with your guitar's volume control.

Though small, this amp is no toy. It has two ECC83 preamp valves and one EL84 power amp valve that deliver some really serious tones. It also has a 1"x10" 16-Ohm G10F-15 Celestion speaker that ensures this combo amp packs a lot of punch. The back panel has a speaker/headphone output port that is controlled by a speaker/headphone selection switch, giving you options to either connect it to a 16-Ohm cab of your choice or have some private practice time via headphones.

The Marshall Class 5, given its simple and straightforward operation, really packs a lot of class for its size. Pricing for the Class 5 is still TBA.

could be a keeper.

I like that it has the headphone out because you can go inside, find out what circuitry marshall is using to emulate (if any) the speaker, eliminate it, and have a true studio-to-stage-rig via a tube power amp or even straight to the board. it will be much more elusive than it appears because the engineers always try to beef up the signal when they tap the output for headphones. it will take some work but this could be the home recordist/small gig players dream!

You cannot go wrong with any of the marshal products. They definitely have the best. You cannot go wrong with any of them.
