Marshall Amplification JMD:1 Series Features Valve Power Amp, Digital Preamp, And Multi-Effects

Marshall Amplification JMD:1 Series integrates an all-valve power amp, advanced digital preamp, and studio-quality multi-effects

It's a new era for Marshall Amplification -- Capturing the best of both worlds, the JMD:1 Series integrates an all-valve power amp, an advanced digital preamp, and studio-quality multi-effects.

The series includes four models: the JMD100 (100W Head; $1,500 MSRP), the JMD102 (100W 2" x 12" Combo; $1,650), the JMD50 (50W Head; $1,350), and the JMD501 (50W 1" x 12" Combo; $1,550). All models will be available in February, 2010.

The preamp offers 16 presets divided into clean, crunch, overdrive, and lead categories, all of which are accessed with a single knob; these settings reflect tones from a range of current and historic Marshall amps. According to Marshall, the JMD:1 uses complex algorithms to replicate amplifier topologies at the component level, providing a much more interactive performance. In addition, the series offers four fully-programmable channels and the Marshall Stompware foot controller that gives access to 28 programmable sounds.

On the power stage side, the JMD:1 gets its signature Marshall tone from the EL34 pentode vacuum tube. The 50W models use two EL34 valves, while the 100W models employ four; external speaker jacks are provided in both 8-ohm and 16-ohm configurations. The amps’ design allows changes in the digital preamp settings to affect the valve power stage, creating a more musical and well-defined character for each sound.

Four kinds of effects are available. Modulation Effects includes a choice of Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, or Tremolo; the Delay offers Tap-Tempo timing, as well as Hi-Fi, Analog, Tape, or Multi voicing; the custom-voiced Reverb operates independently; and the Series / Parallel FX Loop offers a dedicated Dry / Wet Mix control.

The JMD:1s sport a headphone output, line input, unbalanced 1/4-inch line output, and MIDI ports.

JMD-1 review

By: jik (not verified)

just purchased a new JMD-1 50 watt head and have it matched with a 1992 JCM 1960 4x12 cab. its really an amazing amp....for both excellent clean and dirt sounds - nothing else comes close in this price point.
having been a marshall user since my 1st JCM800 purchase back in early 70s, this amp IS the holy grail us guitarists search for....the number of sweet tones that are available satisfy all types of music gendres.....having 16 amp models spanning the entire "best-of" marshall collection is beyond priceless, not to mention the onboard studio effects such as tape delay etc.
doug aldrichs youtube demo says it pretty well....but theres LOADS more....from country to southern rock....this amp IS IT!!!!!!!
