Marshall Lead 12 Is One Solid Tranny, So Says "The Bard"

Most guitarists at least know that the better, $$1,000--2,000+ Marshalls are all tube with model numbers JCM, JTM, and JTM. Less known is the crappy reputation of the solid state VS ("Valve State") G ("Garbage"?), and MG ("Made like Garbage"?) models, but the outcry of younger guitarists at the bad sound has been enough to give not only all Marshall solid states, but all SS's in general a bad, bad rep. I'll save my readers hours of skimming this review-source by providing a quick summary of the better Marshall SS's: the Lead 12 & 20 combos, the 75 Reverb Master Lead/Reverb 30 combos, and the Lead 15, 100 Mosfet, and 3310 head.

Here's some summary-quotes from the link above, describing the 4 better combos and 3 heads:

"Much better than the dubious stuff Marshall puts out these days....As good as indestructible....best solid state amp...ever....easily as good as my Marshall TSL601....intense little grinder...crunchy...tone brings me back to my youth..."

(Lead 12 combo): "Best sounding Tranny amp I have EVER HEARD..and I play a 1968 Super Bass....close to tube warmth for solid state....records very warm....mine sounds like Angus Young on steroids....[despite] *only* 12 watts, plenty of power to play most small/medium sized clubs w/o being mic'd--we've done it."

My experience has been with the Marshall Lead 12 (pic of my baby at the top left of this article). This thing is crunch city that only a JCM 800 (but 1/5th the price) or Monte-Modded Metal Zone (but 1/2 the noise) comes close to. The trick is to both use a decent 15k output humbucker if playing Metal (not a 7.5k single-coil Strat!) and come-out of the line-out (plug in halfway to mute the speaker) into a slave amp with decent 2 12's (even the crap, ripped no-names I use are fatter than the stock 10" speaker). You WILL NOT believe you're NOT playing a heavily-modded, $1,000, JCM 800! Find one! Try it! Street price is around $125 for a thrashed one, $225 for a mint/upgraded speaker one. Mine's modded with a speaker-out jack, and the line-out gives identical tone to that -- unheard of! :)

Marshall Lead 20

By: DarkSock (not verified)

I traded my old Fender tube on a brand new Marshall Lead 20 back in the 80's; great little amp. Loud and crunchy.

If you want to buy a house, you will have to get the loan. Moreover, my mother all the time uses a short term loan, which seems to be really useful.

From time to time, some students, which require the editing service essays, don’t actually know the best way to find that. But it would be available to purchase term paper at the advanced term paper writing service. It’s a usual action for most people.
