Marshall MA Series Guitar Amplifiers: All-Valve Amplification, Marshall-Style
For the budget-conscious / bargain-hunting musician, Marshall Amplification is offering its new MA Series of guitar amplifiers: the MA50H 50W Amplifier Head ($950 MSRP), the MA50C 50W Combo Amplifier ($1,000 MSRP), the MA100H 100W Amplifier Head ($1,100 MSRP), and the MA100C 100W Combo Amplifier ($1,250 MSRP).
The MA amps feature all-valve amplification, Marshall's traditional black and gold, and the white Marshall logo. Shown below are the MA50H and MA50C.
Two channels, Clean and Overdrive, are offered, and they both feature independent volume control and three-band EQ. The Overdrive Channel is equipped with an additional Gain knob, a Boost switch, and Crunch Balance knob. The Gain knob adds an additional level of gain staging for that classic Marshall crunch sound, while the Boost switch delivers a "mean" grind for effortless soloing or metal riffing. Likewise, the Crunch Balance knob sets the level difference between the Overdrive and Boost levels and yields a three-channel sound. An included footswitch allows you to switch between the current channel settings.
In the amp's Master section, Presence, Resonance, and Reverb controls provide extra tonal control and sound shaping. Meanwhile, the power amp stage features either two (on 50W models) or four (100W models) EL34 pentode valves, and the preamp stage uses three ECC83 (12AX7) dual triode valves. The rear panel sports Serial FX Loop in and out jacks, ohm and 16-ohm speaker outputs, and a connection for the included foot switch.
