JASON DONNELLY: Jason Donnelly here with Gearwire.Com, and we’re looking at the M-Audio Conectiv USB audio interface for DJs. This is the vinyl CD pack so you can use the timecoded vinyl and timecoded CDs provided with this package to trigger your MP3s and WAV files from within the Torq software. Torq also comes with the Conectiv and it’s all by M-Audio. Let’s have a closer look at Torq.

So shown here we have a set of turntables, a mixer in the middle, M-Audio Conectiv interface, an Apple Powerbook running Torq, and I’m using the Vinyl pack which is timecoded vinyl. You can use the CDs as well. It comes with a set of timecoded CDs. I prefer vinyl. I grew up using vinyl and mixing with records so of course I’m more comfortable with the vinyl. Let’s have a closer look at Torq.

Here’s the Torq software. It’s Synchroscience technology by M-Audio. In the middle, you see your mixer. If you were to use this as a standalone app without an external mixer, you can do so. You can use hot keys on the keyboard or use your mouse to control the levels and faders and EQs and effects and what not. So, in the center there you have your mixer. On each side, you have effects, your PFL which is your fader level which, you know, monitoring and cueing the songs in your headphones versus what’s going to be heard by the crowd. You also have a waveform view and BPM and pitch adjustment, and below all that in the middle sort of down before you see your playlist, there is the sampler section where you can load in a number of your own samples. So, stay tuned. Jason Donnelly with Gearwire.Com.
