Maxon 9-Series Analog Time Delay Effects Released Five Years Ago Today

Maxon 9-Series, Five Years Ago

Set your clocks back about five years or so, and you'd be getting informed about some new Maxon 9-Series pedals featuring Bucket Brigade Delay integrated circuits. At the time, the new pedals were said to be an extremely limited release, guaranteeing that the pedals would be a collectors' items.

Currently, the 9-Series is still kicking, and it features the AD-9 Pro and AD-9, both of which feature Bucket Brigade Delay IC. The Maxon name can be more notoriously found in Ibanez TS-808 and TS-9 pedals from the 1970s all the way until 2002. All you have to do is open the casing, and the Maxon name will be staring you right in the face from the circuit board.

After Ibanez stopped using Maxon circuitry in their Tube Screamers, Maxon decided to just put out their own pedals, kicking off the series. The OD-9, then, cannot be disregarded as just another Tube Screamer knockoff.

While big name guitarists like Santana, Clapton and SRV enjoyed the Maxon equipped Ibanez Tube Screamers, artists currently using Maxon pedals include everyone from R.E.M. and Buddy Guy to Adam Michal Dalski, better known as Nergal of Behemoth. The Maxon pedals still experience more use in Japan than the U.S. because of smaller runs and the three rules of real estate: location, location, location.
